Rev. Dr. Travis Milton Guyton, Sr. was born on December 19, 1945, in Birmingham, Alabama to his parents, George M. Guyton, Sr. and Olivia Kimble Guyton. He was the third child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Melvin, George and his sisters, Aprilene, Brenda, Cathy and Teresa. His mother was his pride and joy. His love for her was unconditional and span his entire life. While growing up, Travis was quite athletic. He enjoyed playing football and basketball. He was the protector of all his siblings. He confessed his belief in Christ at a very early age and continued to worship the Lord in spirit and in truth for the rest of his life. Dr. Guyton received his formal education in Birmingham, Alabama, where he graduated from Westville High School. He furthered his education by attending various colleges and earning over 100 degrees of studies. He also earned award for being an Evangelist. He earned his Master's Degree and later his Doctorate Degree in Pastoral Studies. On January 30, 2008, Dr. Guyton united in holy matrimony to the former, Dorothy Richard, in Denver, Colorado. He was the proud father of Travis, Jr., LaDana, Tracy, Tyrone, Yohance, Jamilla, Shanida, and Anthony. He was later blessed with thirty-five grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren, who were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. By profession, Dr. Guyton was a servant of the Lord but he also was employed as a self-employed entrepreneur. He truly enjoyed the independence and freedom afforded him working as his own boss. Dr. Guyton worshiped the Lord under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Paul E. Burleson of Friendship Baptist Church of Christ Jesus. Dr. Guyton was a man who enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. He was a man who was not without adversity in his life; each challenge faced made him stronger, wiser and more knowledgeable. He loved preaching the gospel to the saved and the unsaved. He believed everyone needed to have the right relationship with the Lord and the fact that prayer was our communication line to the Lord. He leaves a legacy of love, laughter and wisdom. He will be missed by all who crossed the path of a man who was strong, ambitious, and a sharp dresser. To know Dr. Travis Guyton was to love him.
