This journey began for Opal Nelvin Stull, when she was born on August 16, 1925, in Henderson, Texas to her parents, Cleveland Strong and Pearlee Cole Strong. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Billy, Augusta and her sister, Georgia. She was a quick learner and started cooking at a very early age for her brothers and sister. She also learned how to press hair. She received her early education in Henderson, where she attended the local public schools. In 1941, Opal united in holy matrimony to J.C. Lee in Henderson, Texas. They first met when they both were in school together. To this union, Reba, Dorothy, Alfred, Alfonso, Lindell and Lawrence were born. In 1952, she relocated to Denver, Colorado. She met Otis Stull in 1954, and to this union, DeWayne and Eva were born. With this union, she became the step mother of Van, Freddie and LaWanda. They all remember her as a loving and devoted mother whose pride and joy was the care and nurture of her family. She was later blessed to have twenty three grandchildren, forty five great grandchildren and nineteen great great grandchildren, who were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. By profession, Opal was employed by Mercy Hospital located in Denver. Her co-workers and employers remember her hard work, dedication, she being dependable and working well with others. She worked for the hospital for over twenty five years before she retired. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Opal accepted the Lord as her personal savior at a very early age. She attended worship service at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Church of Christ and finally at Church of the Rock. She loved to sing God's praises in song and truly believed that everyone needed to have the right relationship with the Lord. Opal was fun loving woman, who enjoyed life and those encircled. Her closest friend, Mattie Brown will miss the time they shared together and the many conversations they had. In her free time, she loved to cook for her family and friends. She was the matriarch of the family and loved sharing the stories of her younger days with her grandchildren. It was the little things she did that made the difference. They will always remember her special smile, caring heart, warm embrace. There will never be anyone who could take her place. To know Opal was to love her. She is preceded in death by her husband, Otis Stull; sons, Alfred, Alfonso, Lindell, Van, Freddie; daughters, Reba, Dorothy, and LaWanda; her parents, Cleveland and Pearlee Strong and both her brothers, Billy F. Cole and Augusta N. Cole. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, It does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self- seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trust always hopes, always perseveres. And now these three remain: faith hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13 Opal Nelvin Stull departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on September 14, 2013, in Denver, Colorado.
