Neal Jones, Sr.

September 6, 1955 — September 10, 2014

Neal O'Dell Jones, Sr. was born on September 6, 1955, in Beckley, West Virginia to his parents, Elbert Jones and Rosa H. Jackson Jones. He was the seventh child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Vernon, Michael, Elbert and his sisters, Bertha, Edith, Ellestyne, and Barbara. As a child, Neal was caring and playful. He loved to eat, play marbles, ride his skateboard and sleigh ride. He received his early education in West Virginia and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. He furthered his education by attending the Laramie County Community College in Wyoming and the Community College of Denver in Colorado. In 1974, Neal enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Cheyenne, WY on the F. E. Air Force Base. He was discharged in 1976. On November 7, 1976, Neal united in holy matrimony to the former Karen M. Edwards. They first met in Cheyenne, WY. She fondly remembers the reception being late getting started due to the lateness of the DJ but when the party started; "Oh what a party." To this union, Keyana and Neal Jr. were born. He was also the proud father of DeShawn. He was later blessed with eight grandchildren, Trevian, Alishaun, Jerzell, Amarie, Ahriana, Isaiah, Cylai and Ayana. They lovingly called him "Grand Baddy or Pee Paw" and fondly remember all the happy and precious moments; he shared with his entire family. By profession, Neal was employed by the Saint Joseph's Hospital as an Orthopedic Technician and a Certified Nurse Assistant. He was hard-working, dedicated and offered a smile that was calming and reassuring. He was admired by his patients and respected by his co- workers and supervisors. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Neal was a member of the Hose of Joy Miracle Deliverance Church in Denver, Colorado. He joined the church in 1986, under the pastoral leadership of the late Apostle Reuben Beechum. He truly believed in the power of prayer and that everyone needed to have the right relationship with the Lord. Neal was a fun loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he loved spending countless hours playing dominoes, his bass guitar and working in his garden. His closest friends, Peter Bailey, Andrew Valdez, Don Florez, Pat Coleman, Bobby Owens, Vinnie and Denise will miss the comraderies they all shared together and the fact that he was a true and trusted. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man who leaves a void that can never be filled. To know Neal was to love him. Neal O'Dell Jones, Sr. departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on September 10, 2014, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his loving and devoted wife, Karen M. Jones, 2 sons, Neal O'Dell Jones, Jr. and Frederick D. Edwards; 1 daughter, Keyana A.
