Marvin David Smith, Jr. was born on November 29, 1984, in Denver, Colorado to his parents, Marvin D. Smith, Sr. and Darla Y. Weston Smith.  He was the first born in the family.  He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Zachary, Christopher, and his sister, Essence.  “Beeper” as he was affectionately called by family and friends was always a joy to be around. He loved being the big brother and took great pride in caring for them. As a child, he loved playing sports.  He was a member of the local little league basketball team.

Marvin received his formal education by graduating from Gateway High School in Aurora, Colorado.  He was the team leader and leading scorer. While in high school, he played basketball under Coach Jeff Sweet.  He served as the Media Spokesman for both the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News.  He furthered his education by attending Trinidad State Junior College.  While at Trinidad, he played basketball under Coach Rich Holden.  Marvin earned a bachelor’s degree from Souther Nazarene University. He was a true basketball pro.  He loved playing and was excellent on the court.  He received numerous awards and trophies for his outstanding athletic ability.  Some of which include, he made the All Colorado Second Team while at Gateway High School.  He was featured in the Denver Post for playing the “Show Game” for the top High School Players in the state.  He was also part of first team featured in the Aurora Sentinel All League Team. He is currently on the Wall of Fame at Gateway High School. He was admired both on the court and off the court for his ability and drive. He was so happy and elated to meet Kobe Bryant when he stopped by the school to play basketball while waiting to play in Oklahoma.

Marvin married in 2011. There were no children born to the union and the marriage was later dissolved.

Marvin was no stranger to work.  He worked in many different career fields over the years.  A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Marvin was baptized at Campbell Chapel Church.

Marvin was a fun-loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled.  In his free time, he loved the time spent with his nieces, nephews, and other family members.  He continued to love sports, FanDuel gambling and eating out.  His favorite food was catfish and steak.  He was always up for a good debate on any subject.  He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful young man who was intelligent, and full of charm.  In closing, his parents want to say, “thank you God for choosing us to be the parents of Marvin.”  To know Marvin was to love him.

Marvin David Smith, Jr. affectionately called “Beeper” departed this life on November 14, 2022, in Denver, Colorado.  Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his parents, Marvin D. and Darla Smith, Sr.; 2 brothers, Zachary H. Smith and Christopher R. Smith; 1 sister, Essence C. Swain; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
