Lawrence Mitchell was born on February 4, 1952, in Dodge City, Kansas to his parents, Fredrick Buckner and Charlene Barfield Buckner. He was the fourth child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Ronald, Michael, Stevie, James and his sisters, Jacqueline, Jessie, and Phyllis. As a child, he loved being social and was known to drive fast cars. He was a person who enjoyed tinkering with things. He found great pleasure in fixing and putting things back together. Lawrence was affectionately called "Magilla" by family and friends. He received his formal education in Dodge City, where he graduated from high school. He was the proud father of a beautiful baby girl they named Tiffani. He was later blessed to be the grandfather of Deacon, MK, Morua, Mikalia and Morua. By profession, Lawrence worked as a Carpenter. His co-workers and employers remember his hard work and dedication. He took pride in his work and made sure he was meticulous and detailed. He wanted to ensure all his work looked good. Lawrence accepted the Lord as his personal savior at a very early age and was baptized at the Montclair Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. Magilla was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed spending quality time with his nieces and nephews. He loved decorating and redecorating his home. He had a collection of black art figurines that he collected as a hobby. He was a man who never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. He leaves a void that can never be filled. To know Magilla was to love him. He is preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Buckner; sisters, Jaqueline Marie, Phyllis Marie and a brother, Ronald Lee. Lawrence "Magilla" Mitchell departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on October 6, 2013, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his daughter, Tiffani Green; his father, Fredrick Buckner; a sister, Jessie May; brothers, Michael "Wolf" Ray, Stevie Allen and James "Dusty" Orland; 5 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
