Elizabeth Kellum

Elizabeth Pearl Manning Kellum was born January 9, 1924, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, the thirteenth child of William Manning and Nancy Webb Manning. Elizabeth accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Boozer Chapel CME Church in Sand Springs. She received her early education in Sand Springs and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1941. On September 18, 1943, she married Tyree Kellum, while Tyree served in the armed forces she lived in Los Angeles, California. Upon Tyree's discharge from the service she joined him in Oklahoma, in 1946, they moved to Denver, Colorado and she joined Zion Baptist Church under the guidance of the late Reverend Wendell T. Liggins. As a member of Zion, she joined the choir and became a charter member of Circle No. 7. Elizabeth became active in the Ebony Magazine drive sponsored by Zion and later became Vice Chairman under Lilah Freelon and eventually taking over the reigns as Chairman. She was a devoted member of the Urban League of Denver and a Life Member of the NAACP. As a member of the NAACP, she enjoyed traveling and participating in several of their annual conventions. By profession, Elizabeth was employed by Presbyterian Hospital in the Radiology Department. She retired in 1993, after thirty years of service. Upon her retirement, she thoroughly enjoyed traveling and would often travel to Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Louisiana to relax and spend time with her family and friends. Shopping was also a favorite past time, she had an exquisite sense of fashion and took great pride in her appearance. Elizabeth was a fun loving woman who enjoyed life and those she encircled. She was an avid Bronco fan and had a competitive nature when it came to playing bid whist and poker with her friends, in her own mind she knew she was the best player! Elizabeth was called to be with the Angels on Sunday, September 22, 2013. She is preceded in death by her parents and twelve siblings. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include two nieces, Leneice Cole of Denver, Davida Davies of California; one nephew, Dr. Christopher E. Holmes of California; seven grand-nieces and nephews, Mary E. Fields, Graylon (Janet) Cole, Elizabeth A. Lowe, William (Regina) Cole, Helen M. Cole all of Denver, Kimberly Milroy, Saudia Holmes, both of California, a host of great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Elizabeth was fondly known as "Auntie" to all, she will be deeply missed.
