Charlotte was born on October 17, 1953 in Aurora, Colorado at Fitzsimons Army Hospital to parents Alma Raullerson Suggs Cornelius and Solomon Suggs, Jr. First called "Chee Chee" by her great-grandmother Henrietta Pimental, Charlotte's entire family affectionately embraced the nickname and everybody knew her as such. She found Christ at an early age, joining Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church while attending Smiley Junior High School. During her childhood, Charlotte traveled to other states, such as Oklahoma and South Carolina, with her military family and graduated from East High School in 1971 in Denver, Colorado. She continued her education at the University of Northern Colorado and received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology. She was the debutante queen of the Sigma Gama Rho sorority. In 1974, Charlotte married Carl Dudley. To this union, Troy Juniel Dudley, her precious son and only child, for whom she would do anything, was born. She aspired to be an elementary school teacher at that time and worked at Park Hill Elementary School for two years. Charlotte loved working with disadvantaged people and quickly discovered her passion for helping people. She was subsequently employed by the Denver Housing Authority as a counselor for four years, and went on to work for Mountain Bell, and then US West. Retiring from Qwest (Century Link) as a supervisor in 2012 after 30 years of service, Charlotte greatly treasured memories of and interactions with her coworkers. She later married Clifton Sims, her high school sweetheart, and enrolled in the Emily Griffith School to learn and master the art and skill of floral design. She had numerous customers, including hotels and businesses, and designed arrangements for wedding ceremonies. An extremely caring and compassionate person, Charlotte helped and supported other people without hesitation. Whether you reached out to her or she heard that you were struggling, she was always there. Her no-nonsense personality was striking and inspiring: she would sharply tell you exactly how something was, and then explain how and why everything would be ok, even in the most complicated situations. Charlotte spoke truth and loved life. Charlotte enjoyed bowling and for many years at 4:00 pm on Saturdays, you could find her at the bowling alley. Spending time with family, watching movies, cooking gumbo, decorating spaces, dressing her grandchildren, and catching up with friends over lunch at La Fiesta, and hosting Christmas celebrations were among her greatest joys. She was an active member of Eastern Stars Evergreen Chapter 3. Preceding Charlotte in death are her mother, Alma Raullerson Suggs Cornelius; grandmother, Laura Raullerson; and brother, Solomon Suggs III. Charlotte passed away on December 25, 2013 at Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. Her warm presence and unyielding sympathy will be missed tremendously. Those left to cherish her memory and love are her son Troy (Jamila) Dudley; her father, Solomon Suggs, Jr.; her sister, Carin Suggs; her grandson Andrew Craig; her granddaughter Charnessa Dudley; step-grandsons, Rashawn Williams, Javone Williams, and Makhi Johnston; aunts, Jessie Robinson, Betty Johnson, Hope Thomas, Ella Mae Herring, and Joanne McKennon; uncles, Roosevelt Suggs and Charlie Suggs; and many other relatives and friends.
