Audrey Jones

October 19, 1945 — August 25, 2013

Audrey Mae Jones was born on October 19, 1945, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to her parents, Reverend Percy Mayes and Dorthia Young Mayes. She was raised surrounded by her brother, Percy, Jr. and her sisters, Irma and Mary. Her siblings fondly remember Audrey watching trains with her grandfather. Audrey received her early education in Grand Junction, Colorado where she graduated from Mesa High School. While in school, she was a Cheerleader, Pom-Pom Girl and a Majorette. On August 1, 1977, Audrey enlisted in the United States Army. She was part of the last component division of the United States Women's Army Corp. While serving her country, she was stationed in Wisconsin, Kentucky, Texas, California, Germany and South Carolina. She was awarded the Armed Services Medal and an Army Commendation Medal. She served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged on May 15, 1986, at the rank of SSgt. (E5). Audrey united in holy matrimony to Isaiah Jones. They first met when they both lived in Grand Junction. To this union, two children were born, Isaiah Jones, Jr. and Dolores Jones. They remember her as being determined and strong willed. She overcame many of life's obstacles by keeping a positive attitude. She strongly believed that mediocrity could never be a solution for success because nothing average ever stood as a monument to progress. She was later blessed with her grandchildren, Isaiah, who she lovingly called, "Juice", Jordan, and Myrical, who she affectionately and appropriately called, "Mommi." They fondly remember her as loving Christmas and vacations. She had a passion to make sure her grandchildren saw Alaska. She made sure it was memorable and enjoyable. She also loved her nephews and all the happy and memorable moments they shared together. By profession, Audrey was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She was employed by Bayada Nursing Home and The Visiting Nurse Association. She was hard-working, dedicated and dependable. She was respected by her co-workers and admired by the patients placed in her charge. She formed close friendships with many of her co- worker's that have been maintained over the years. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Audrey was a member of Abundant Grace Christian Center. She joined the church under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Vashon Mason. She was the Church Mother. She truly enjoyed her walk with the Lord and the fellowship shared with her church family. Audrey was a fun loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed reading the Bible, Native Beading, traveling, watching gospel programs and spending quality time with family and friends. Her closest friends will miss her kindness, generosity, her Christian lifestyle of leading by example and she always offered words of encouragement to others, She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful lady. To know Audrey was to love her. Audrey Mae Jones departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on August 25, 2013, in Denver, Colorado.
