Arlean Jamison was born in Bruce, Mississippi to her parents, Bishop James L. Crowley, Sr. and Vera Mae Ford Crowley. She was the thirteenth of seventeen children born in the family. Having been raised in a small town, she shared a special closeness with her siblings. She received her early education in Derma, Mississippi where she attended Gaston Chapel Grade School and it was also where her mother was her teacher through the fifth grade. In her own writings, Arlean reflected, "I received my first D in Arithmetic when I was in the fifth grade and it came from my mother." "I did learn that she was not prejudice. If you earn it, you got! was her mother's motto. The family eventually relocated to Denver, Colorado and Arlean attended Cole Junior High School and graduated from Manual High School. She furthered her education by attending Denver Opportunity School to become a Registered Nurse. She later transferred to Arapahoe Community College and started courses to earn her certification to become a Mortician. Her internship was completed at Grandberry Mortuary then located in Denver, Colorado owned and operated by T.G. Grandberry. For the next ten years, she worked as the Secretary and also Embalmer for the mortuary. When the Grandberry's sold the business to Thomas Hill and he renamed it House of Hills, she worked with the Hills until the death of her father. She was extremely close to her father and found it difficult to work in the funeral industry after his passing. She then returned to college and completed courses needed to become a nurse. Arlene has worked with several of the local nursing homes and hospitals in the area. She was employed by Stovall Care Center for over five years until her health began to decline. She also worked part time at Sinclair Oil Company, which turned into a full time position. She remained actively employed until she underwent open heart surgery and her entire life would change. Arlean united in holy matrimony to Evangelist James D. Jamison. To this union, a daughter, Jamesina was born. She was also the proud mother of Vermel and Lorese aka "Sha Sha." Family was important to Arlean and she valued all the happy and precious moments spent with her family. She was later blessed with six grandchildren, Sophia, JeQuetta, Darlene, Tonya, Onevar, Amour and the next generation 9 great grandchildren. They lovingly called her "Nannie" or "grandma" and fondly remember all the memorable moments they all shared together. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Arlean accepted the Lord as her personal savior during a revival camp meeting in her home of Bruce, Mississippi. All the children were deeply rooted in the word of God and carried these beliefs to Denver. Arlean became a member of Trinity Temple COGIC under the pastoral leadership of the late Elder Alvin Hill. She was a woman who believed in the power of prayer and that everyone should have the right relationship with Lord. She was active in many of the church activities and ministries. She truly enjoyed her walk with the Lord and fellowship shared with her church family. Arlean was a fun loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she loved sharing with her family and close friends. When her health allowed, she loved her visits to the "Hills." She was an avid Bronco fan and followed the team intently. She also loved to drink Pepsi, play card games and dominoes with her siblings. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful lady. To know Arlean was to love her. Arlean Jamison departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on August 26, 2013, in Aurora, Colorado.
