Zelda Abernathy

January 4, 1952 — November 21, 2014

Zelda Lee Abernathy was born on January 4, 1952, to John T. Abernathy & Margaret L. Turner in Kinloch, Missouri. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Wilbert, Frank, Michael, John, Andre and her sisters, Beverly, Beatrice, Elizabeth and Thelma. She received her formal education in St. Louis, Missouri where she graduated from McCluer Senior High School. Zelda professed her belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Kinloch MO; under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Ike Lodge. Zelda was the proud mother of Delphine, Teeshia, and the Godmother of Marie. She was later blessed with eight grandchildren, who were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. The family shared many happy and precious moments together. Zelda was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Her house had an open door policy and was constantly filled with children and teenagers. All were welcome and she made them feel at home and part of the family. Zelda lived a full and happy life. She was a seamstress, finding much pride in the prom dresses and clothes she made for anyone interested. She had a love for movies and music which she graciously shared with anyone who wanted to listen or watch. She leaves a void that can never be filled. To know Zelda was to love her. She is preceded in death by her parents; two siblings, Michael Leon Turner and Elizabeth Inell Crosby and a stepfather, Wilbert Lee Crosby, Sr. Zelda departed this world to celebrate her new life, early on Friday, November 21, 2014, in Greeley, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include two daughters, Delphine L. (Rico) Leonard, of Greeley and Teeshia E. M. (Darryl) Sneed of St. Louis, MO; one Goddaughter, Marie (Robert) Franklin of Collinsville, IL; 5 grandchildren, Kathryn J. Leonard, Teä N. L. Jackson, Djimon K. A. Jackson, Jamaal D. Sneed and Janelle D. Sneed; three God grandchildren, Alonzo Benard, Kashae Bailey and Nadia Franklin; one god great grandson, Myles Benard; her stepmother, Queen Esther Abernathy of St. Louis, MO; three sisters, Beverly (Albert) Crosby-Blackmon, Beatrice Crosby, Thelma Abernathy, and her step sister, Gloria Abernathy all of St. Louis, MO and four brothers, Wilbert (Laverne) Crosby Jr., Frank (Patricia) Crosby, John T Abernathy Jr. all of St. Louis, MO and Andre (Glenda) Small of Durham, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and adopted children.
