Yvonne Steger was born on December 19, 1947, in Seminole, Texas to LaVerne and Odell Davis. She has one sister, Paula and three brothers, Ralph, Calvin, and Thomas. Her sister, Paula, remembers her as a life-mentor. In 1960, the family relocated to Denver, Colorado, and Yvonne attended Manual High School. While at Manual, she met her first husband, Johnny L. Hines, Sr. To this union, they were blessed with three children, Johnny Jr., Tammy, and Dwight. Later, Yvonne married Richard L. Steger. With this union, she was blessed with two step-daughters, Rhonda, and Sederia. Together, they traveled the world and spent time in Germany, Kentucky, and settled making Colorado their home. Yvonne was later blessed with a host of grandchildren, and great grandchildren who she loved spending her free-time with. Yvonne was a kind and loving person. She loved bingo, dog-track, the casinos and traveling. Yvonne helped anyone who was in need of her assistance and would always lend a listening ear for someone to confide in. She will always be considered the "Backbone of our family." She worked for the U.S. Government for 25 years, maintaining the position of a Store Technician. In March 2016, she retired from Buckley Air Force Base Commissary. She was dedicated and performed her duties with integrity and excellence She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Steger and her father, Thomas James. Yvonne Steger departed this life on February 22, 2017, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Johnny L. (Debra) Hines, Jr., Aurora, CO, Dwight A. Hines, Aurora, CO, and one daughter, Tammy D. Gerdine, Wilmer, TX ; her mother, LaVerne James, Aurora, CO; her siblings, Paula Simmons, Ralph Simmons, Calvin Simmons, Thomas Smith, all of Aurora, CO; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.
