Winifred Mccullough

August 1, 1924 — June 4, 2013

Winifred Anne Cousins McCullough entered into life on August 1, 1924, in Chillicothe, Ohio. She was born to the union of Pearl Oliver Cousins and Ethel Willa Sandridge Cousins. Winifred was the fourth of five children: Imogene, Oliver, Naomi, and Florence. Winifred graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1942. She attended business school at Wilberforce University and was licensed in cosmetology in 1945. On April 1, 1946, Winifred married the love of her life, Edward D. McCullough of Gary, Indiana. She became a military wife as Edward had a distinguished career in the Army, serving two tours in Korea. To their union was born three children: Edward, Beverly, and Alfonzo. Edward, Sr. preceded Winifred in death. Later she was blessed with a wonderful blended and extended family of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. There were also many who simply adopted her, lovingly calling her "Grandma Anne" with the rest of the kids. All fondly remember her as a teacher, an encourager, a crafter, and a storyteller. She and her special friends (Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Jackson) founded a crocheting club that continued for ten years. She also loved music, dancing and cooking. Winifred was adventurous and very active; she will be missed by all who were blessed to know her. Winifred was a faithful employee for 25 years at the Milwaukee Protestant Home for the Aged and retired as a dietary supervisor. Soon after her retirement, she relocated from Milwaukee to Denver to help with her grandchildren. A woman of quiet faith, Winifred was baptized at seven years old and she joined First Baptist Church in Chillicothe, OH. Upon moving to Denver, she joined DaySpring Christian Center where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She also attended Peaceful Rest Baptist Church. Her favorite song was "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" and she loved "Sing Hallelujah" played by violinist Maurice Sklar. She was preceded into eternity by her parents, Pearl and Ethel Cousins; and her siblings, Imogene Ruth McNeal, Oliver "Buddy" Cousins, Naomi Cousins, and Florence Lewis. On June 4, 2013, after 88 years, the Lord called Winifred to her Heavenly home. Those left to cherish her memory are her 3 children, Edward (Joan) McCullough, Jr. of Riverside, CA; Reverend Dr. Beverly (James) McGill of Denver, CO, and Alfonzo McCullough of Denver, CO.; 11 grandchildren, Shani (Cody) and Jeanine of Riverside, Jacqueline (Randy), Shellie, Perry (Loretta), Valerie (Patrick) all of Denver Metro Area, Belinda of Portland, Rosemarie of Norfolk, VA., Shirron, Robyn and Andrew of Denver Metro; 16 great-grandchildren Brianna, Baylee, Ellis, Aaron, Evan, Dante, Jasmine, Ashley, Brian, Mason, Johnnie, Tara, Morgan, TaShawna, Torrie and Lonnie; 3 great-great grandchildren, Braelon, Brennon and Lauren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
