William Meyers Gordon "Bill" Life's Journey "The Steps of a Good Man is Ordered by God" "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighted in his way…" Psalm 37:23 William Myers Gordon was born on September 29, 1929, in Greenwood, Mississippi to Julia Smith-Hunt and Clarence Hunt. He was the eldest of three children born to Julia. William was educated and raised by his mother's sister, Mary Bea Williams in Greenwood, Mississippi. He shared many happy and precious memories with his Aunt Mary Bea. She would often take little William hunting and fishing and let him bring his friends along. As an early teen at the young age of 14, William joined the United States Army, where he was later stationed in Paris, France. He often spoke of vivid memories of WWII and how he endured many hazardous incidents barely escaping with his life. After the war and sometime in the 1950's, William came to Denver where he became the first black employee of KLZ Television Station. His job was to set up movies for viewing. He also worked as an over the road truck driver, welder, cook, mechanic, mortician, apartment manager, and hospital aid. He later joined the police force where he proudly served for many years. William was the father three children, one son and two daughters; one of his daughters, preceded him in death. Upon reaching his retirement age, William loved spending time with his dog "Spider". Spider would accompany him everywhere he went. His hobby was fishing. They often took photos together while fishing. They had become best friends. In 1985, William met Neda Faye Watts and they married one year later on Christmas Day. With this union, he became the step father to five children, Gene Jr., Renee, Sondra, Kirk, and Tammy. William and Neda shared a wonderful loving relationship. They would write each other love letters and love notes and place them around the house so the other would read them. William expressed to Neda how he wished " he could have met her earlier in his life because she made life so much sweeter." A man of faith and belief in the Lord, William served as a Deacon under the leadership of Reverend John J. Young at the New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. He truly enjoyed his walk with the Lord and the fellowship shared with his church family. When William's health began to decline, he was unable to pursue his favorite hobby, which was creating art work and watching war movies. He leaves a legacy in his wife; first cousin, Ida Mae Reed and her son; a father of seven, and family all in Waterloo Iowa. He is preceded in death by a son, Kevin Sells. William Myers Gordon departed this life on Thursday, December 13, 2012.
