**June 10, 1923 – 2024**

In remembrance of a life richly lived, we honor the legacy of William Thomas Golson, Sr. A devoted family man and steadfast friend, William graced this world for over 100 years, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Born in Clanton, Alabama, he forged his path through both trials and triumphs, beginning as one of nine children born to Richmond Golson and Mittie Lee Nunn. With an unwavering spirit, he navigated the challenges of his early years, working diligently to support his family from a tender age.

William’s journey was one of resilience. His formative years in Harmony, Alabama, saw him balancing education with the demands of farm work. Few knew that the seemingly simple work he undertook was a testament to his dedication to family. By the tender age of sixteen, he ventured beyond his roots, finding opportunities at Fort Benning, Georgia. However, turbulent times drew him back to his hometown, and it wasn’t long before he answered the call to serve in the Army during World War II, where he showed courage and commitment as he fought for his country until 1946.

In 1947, he united in marriage with the love of his life, Maldoshia Parker. Their bond, once brightened by the laughter of three children—Carolyn Jean (deceased 1987), William Jr., Stephanie Hartfield, and Zachary Golson—was a beacon of joy and resilience. Though Maldoshia's journey ended in 2015 after a long struggle, their enduring love lives on in the hearts of their children and the cherished memories they created together.

Later years saw William transition into civilian life with grace, working at the VA Hospital and then with the Civil Service, ultimately retiring in 1983. Even in retirement, his heart remained attentive to the community, embracing the role of a school bus driver, instilling joy in the daily lives of children.

An eternal learner, William valued education throughout his life. He proudly earned his GED at Emily Griffith Opportunity School in 1972—a milestone he shared in celebration with his eldest son. Together, they captured a moment of accomplishment, embodying the spirit of perseverance that defined him.

William is remembered not only for his military service and dedication to his family but also as the last surviving sibling of Richmond and Mittie Lee’s children. He is survived by his beloved children: William Jr. (Melvia), Stephanie Hartfield (Kevin), and Zachary (Sandy), along with a growing lineage of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a treasured assembly of nieces and nephews.

As we reflect on a century of life, love, and legacy, let us celebrate the warmth and wisdom of William Thomas Golson, Sr.—a man whose spirit will forever illuminate the lives he touched. May his memory inspire us to honor family, embrace community, and pursue knowledge with the same unyielding passion.
