Vivian Walker

Mother Vivian Walker was born on April 12, 1921, in Alma, Arkansas to her parents, Ollis Winton and Mertie Brewer Winton. She was the first born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brother, O.J. and her sisters, Nora, Evelyn and Laura Mae. She received her fundamental education in Alma, Arkansas where she attended Lincoln High School. Mother Walker married John Smith in Fort Smith, Arkansas and to this union, a son, John T. Smith was born. She later wed, Cooledge McClain in Ft. Smith, Arkansas and to this union, Mertie, Helen and Curley were born. She married Jack Poledor and to this union, Donald and Cynthia were born. After her marriage to Fred Walker, Freddie, Edward, Clifford, Denise, Tina and William were born. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, whose pride and joy was the care and nurture of her family. Mother Walker was later blessed with thirty four grandchildren; fifty four great grandchildren, and twenty seven great great grandchildren, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. They lovingly called her "Granny or Grandma" and fondly remember all the happy and precious moments they all shared together. By profession, Mother Walker was employed in the Healthcare Industry. While residing in Arkansas, she was employed by St. Edward's Nursing Hospital. When she relocated to Denver, she was employed by Children's Hospital. Wherever employed, she was hard-working, dedicated, and performed her duties with spirit of excellence. A woman of Faith and Belief in the Lord, Mother Walker has been a member of Progressive Church of God in Christ for over thirty years. She joined the church under the pastoral leadership of Bishop C. L. Bryant. She truly believed in the power of prayer and that everyone needed to have the right relationship with the Lord. She served her church and the Lord as a Sunday School Teacher, she sang in the choir, and was actively involved in many of the church functions and activities. She was named Mother of the Church and was so proud and honored to hold the title. Mother Walker was a fun loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping, traveling, working crossword puzzles, watching action movies, soap operas, and listening to music. She loved going to church and her love of God and family was ever present in her day to day life. She had a great sense of style, fashion and elegance. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this strong woman of God, who would often say, "The greatest gift from God is the gift of life. If you don't have Jesus in your heart, you have no hope; No Hope, You Are Lost." Mother Vivian Walker departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on March 16, 2017, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include 5 sons, John T. (Betty) Smith of Milpitas, CA, Donald W. (Brenda) Poledor of Woodbridge, VA, Edward M. (Francis) Walker of Denver, William O. (Mina) Walker of the Philippines, and Dwight L. (Rhonda) McClain of Aurora; 5 daughters, Mertie L. (James) Perkins, Helen L. (Carl) Griffin all of Denver, Curley B. McClain of Lakewood, Cynthia (Robert) Greene of Aurora and Tina T. Darby of Lakewood; 2 sisters, Nora Thomas of Denver and Laura M. Roberts of Columbus, OH; 34 grandchildren; 54 great grandchildren; 27 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
