Vivian Harris

December 7, 1932 — June 14, 2015

Vivian Elizabeth Harris was born on December 7, 1932, in Amarillo, Texas to her parents, Will Baker and Rosie Lee Sanchez Baker. She was the fourth child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, George, Leon, Edward and her sister, Willie Mae. As a child, she is remembered as enjoying reading National Geographic Magazines. She loved all holidays but her favorite was Christmas. She loved the smell of cakes and gingerbread baking and eating ribbon candy from fruit baskets. Vivian received her formal education by graduating from Patton High School in 1946. On June 16, 1955, she united in holy matrimony to George T. Harris. They first met in Tacoma, Washington. They exchanged vows in City Hall while George was serving his country in the United States Air Force. To this union, Vickie, George, Jr., Michael, Deborah and Patricia and Darlene were born. Vivian was a loving and devoted wife and mother whose primary duty was the care and nurture of her family. Her children fondly remember her being given the nick name "Better Homes and Gardens" because she kept a meticulously neat and organized home and she cooked the most delicious meals. Vivian was later blessed with ten grandchildren, Sonjia, Michael, Jr., Ramica, Erik, Ramon, Jr., Rachel, Chelsea, Dominique, DeShawn, Myah; nine great grandchildren, James, Erika, Joel, Alyia, Erik, Jr., Lilly and; two great great grandchildren, Maiya and Kaleigh, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. They lovingly called her "grandma" and fondly remember her gardening, planting vegetables and them helping her pick them when they were ripe. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, for over 5 years, she worshipped at the Church of the Firstborn, SA. She truly enjoyed the wisdom and knowledge she gained while studying the Bible and the fellowship she shared with her church family. Vivian was a fun loving, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, listening to gospel music, painting and cooking. He closest friends, Carolyn Anderson and Jean Cortez will miss the special moments they all shared together, her sense of humor and fact that she was a true and genuine friend who was loyal. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman who leaves a void that can never be filled. To know Vivian was to love her. She is preceded in death by her husband, George T. Harris, Sr.; her parents and all her siblings. Vivian Elizabeth Harris departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on June 14, 2015, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include, 2 sons, George T.
