Virginia Bruce McConnell Jones affectionately called "Ginger' by family and friends was born on September 6, 1935, in Venice, Illinois to her parents, Elmer E. McConnell and Birdie Bell Hendricks McConnell. She was the sixth child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brother, Alfred and her sisters, Virdie, Betty, Maxine, and Lorene. She received her formal education in Denver, where she graduated from Manual High School in 1954. Virginia first wed Edward Parks in Denver, Colorado. The marriage lasted only six months due to him passing as a result of health complications. On March 18, 1963, she united in holy matrimony to Roy A. Jones. Virginia was the proud mother of four beautiful children, Michelle, Kim, Regenia and Karen. She was a loving and devoted mother who took great pride in the care and nurture of her family. She was later blessed with seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Eddie, Ajeenah, Tarajee, Samir, Damon, Brandon and eleven great grandchildren, Eddie, Daijanae, Destiny, Ikia, Mastr, Cayden, Shemick, Khalia, Sifwan, Uwais, and Hafsa, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. They lovingly called her "granny" and fondly remember all the happy and precious moments they shared together. By profession, Virginia was employed by the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center working as a File Clerk and in their Central Mail Facility. She also worked as PBX Operator for Spaulding Rehabilitation Center, the Renaissance Hotel, and Swedish Medical Center,. Wherever employed, Virginia was a joy to work around. She carried a warm and well received personality. Some of the awards she received include A Certificate of Service from the Department of the Air Force, A Special Achievement Award from the Department of the Air Force, and Special Achievement Award for Sustained Superior Performance. Virginia was not one who merely met the standards, she exceeded them above expectation. She was a member of the auxiliary board of the Colorado Ballet. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Virginia joined New Hope Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend A.C. Dones. She has served her church and the Lord as the Coordinator of the Nursing Home Ministries. She was a member of the church choir. She was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for her dedication to the church seniors. She truly enjoyed the Christian Spirit of her church family and the wisdom and knowledge she gained as she studied the Bible. She had been a faithful and dedicated member for over 50 years. "Ginger" was a fun loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Virginia was to love her. She is preceded in death by a son, Kim McConnell; her parents, Elmer E. and Birdie McConnell; siblings, Alfred McConnell, Virdie Cook, Betty J. Brewster, Maxine McConnell and Lorene Peters; and a granddaughter, Tiffany Carter. Virginia B. McConnell Jones departed this life on June 30, 2016, in Englewood, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include 3 daughters, Michelle J. Carter of Denver, Regenia A. Abdul-Mateen of Missouri City, Texas and Karen G. Haynes of Long Beach, California; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, sister-in-law of Calvin Cook, Sr. and Reverend James D. Peters, sister-in-law of Audrie McConnell; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
