Virgil Boston Robinson, Jr. was born on May 10, 1929, in Nicodemus, Kansas to his parents, Virgil B. Robinson, Sr. and Theresa L. Williams Robinson. He was the first born of fourteen children, three brothers, ten sisters. He also acquired one step sister, and three step brothers. Virgil was affectionately called "Skitzy" by family and friends. He was a man full of charm, charisma, and he had an innate ability to make everyone feel welcomed and like family. He is remembered as being a great dancer and a force to be reckoned with, this passion would later be passed on to his children. Virgil received his fundamental education in Nicodemus. The family later relocated to Denver, Colorado where he attended Cole Junior High School and Manuel High School. He met Juanita Robinson when they both were teens. She was sweet and eventually won his heart. They united in holy matrimony on October 24, 1948, when Virgil was 19 years old. They exchanged vows in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in a large ceremony surrounded by family and friends. To this union, 12 children were born. Virgil was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a man all about the care and nurture of his family. He was happy and proud to have been able to walk all seven daughters down the aisle on their wedding day. He was later blessed with 46 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. Virgil and Juanita had been married 66 years, at the time of his passing. Virgil was a hard -working man, he worked for a number of years at Gates Rubber Company and Rocky Mountain Arsenal. He worked the longest as a Bricklayer. He was taught the trade by Allen Shields; Virgil passed that same training to his grandchildren. He had a reputation of excellence in his work. He worked in a number of homes in the Denver Metropolitan area including Park Hill and the Stapleton Airport. His undeniable skills later led him to lay the foundation for a family home in his hometown of Nicodemus, Kansas. He became an active and invaluable member of the community. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Virgil was a member of Nicodemus Baptist Church. He later became a Catholic and joined St. Joseph Catholic Church where he worshipped for over thirty one years. His favorite scripture could be found at Psalm 118:26, "This is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it." As his health began to decline, he was able to recite the 23rd Psalm to its entirety. Virgil was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing where he found peace and relaxation. He loved watching sports but his favorite was boxing. His closest friends, Val Mantley, Robert Carter, Maurice Wiggins, Bill Hutton, Leroy Vandevall and others will miss the comraderies they all shared together and fact that he was a true and trusted friend. A favorite saying was "Be ready even if you don't go and it is better to have it even if you don't need it." He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Virgil was to love him. Virgil Boston Robinson, Jr. departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on September 19, 2014, in his home in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his loving and devoted wife, Juanita F. Robinson, Aurora; 6 sons, Virgil A. (Brenda/Nadine) Robinson, Denver, Vernon L. (Jeannie) Robinson, Denver, Verle A. (Tammy) Robinson, Hartford, CT, Val R. (Carrie) Robinson, Aurora, Vance V.(Jolene Santos) Robinson, Aurora and Bernard Ford, Aurora; 7 daughters, Kathleen A. (James) McBryde, Surprise, AZ, Kimberleen M. Robinson, Atlanta, GA, Karen E. Powell, Denver, Kay F. (Ernest) Wade, Aurora, Kolleen V. (Bill) Slater, Krystal L. Robinson, Aurora and Karmen T. (Philander) Miller, Aurora; 2 brothers, Leonard (Diane) Robinson, Minneapolis, MN and Gregory Wade, Denver; 7 sisters, Theda Robertson, Fayetteville, GA, Lois Harrison, Denver, Rose McNeil, Wendell, NC, Shirleen (Leon) Calhoun, Lithia Springs, GA, Lauretta Green, Rockway, NJ, Sherry Delaney, Aurora and Melonda (Larry) Pugh; Grand Prairie, TX; 46 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins other relatives and many friends.
