Veronica Boyd

Veronica Lynn Boyd was born on October 24, 1944, in Columbia, Louisiana to her parents, Robert McDowell and Pluma Jackson McDowell. She was the first born in the family. They eventually relocated to Denver, Colorado where her brother Ceasar was born. As a child, she was known to be a bit mischievous. She would chase her brother around the house with peanut butter when he made her mad, knowing he was allergic to it. They shared many happy and memorable moments growing up together. She is remembered as loving to dress up in beautiful clothes and to dance. She played the piano and excelled academically in school. Lynn graduated from Manual High School in 1962 and became a Debutante for the Owl's Club.

On July 17, 1962, Lynn married Jerry A. Boyd. They first met while attending a track meet at Manual High School when she was only fourteen years old and Jerry was fifteen. On the day they married at his mother's house, they had their ceremony in the living room, cake in the dining room and their honeymoon in the basement. The couple shared many ups and downs but always with forgiveness in their hearts and minds. To this union, three beautiful children were born, Aleta, Jeri Lynn and Joel. The Boyd household was full of love, joy and peace. Aleta thanks her mom for teaching her to be kind, stay calm, and stay in touch with family. Jeri thanks her mom for being a perfect example of a loving, Godly woman with a quiet, peaceful spirit. Joel thanks his mom for being his confidant, for teaching him how to listen and to be strong. Jerry fondly remembers Denver Mayor Wellington Webb commemorated Lynn and Jerry's ‘40th Anniversary Celebration Day' of through an official City Proclamation. Lynn and Jerry have traveled to Mexico, Canada, Bahamas, London and South Africa.

Lynn was later blessed with two grandchildren, Jalan and Jordyn. Jalan fondly remembers shopping and the shoe addiction they shared. Jordyn fondly remembers the special moments shared during holidays, the change jar her Grandma kept repeatedly filled, shopping and her loving, caring ways.

Over the years, Lynn was employed by Citibank, Mountain Bell (became AT&T), Fashion Bar, Security Pacific, Sears, Metroplex Realtors, and Century 21. She was hard-working, dedicated and performed her duties with a spirit of excellence and made many good friends through work. Wherever employed, she enjoyed helping people in any way she could and she was good at it. She had great customer service skills and often won employee of the month; she also earned a certificate in home staging and interior decoration and was phenomenal at both.

A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Lynn accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at the age of ten and at that time, she was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church. She later transferred her membership to Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church. She truly enjoyed her church and the fellowship shared with her church family, For many years, she served as an enthusiastic greeter. She was a volunteer in the food bank and was active in Sunday School. She loved reaching out to others by way of cards and visits.

Lynn was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she surrounding her. In her free time, she loved shopping, watching reality television including Judge Judy, Dancing With The Stars, American Idol, and the Voice. She was an avid Denver Bronco and Denver Nuggets fan, she enjoyed watching ice skating, tennis, dining out and Wii bowling. Masterpiece Theater and House Hunters were also favorites. She was very active with the Silver Sneakers Club from the 24 Hour Fitness and the Aurora Christian Woman's Vital Network for over 20 years, where she was known for inviting others and growing the membership.

In closing, Jerry says "thank you, Lord Jesus for allowing Lynn to be my girlfriend and my wife for 56 years. She was a fine woman, my love, and my friend. It was a joy and honor to take care of her as she took care of me and our family." To know Lynn was to love her.

Veronica Lynn Boyd departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on June 30, 2019, in her home in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving and devoted husband, Jerry A. Boyd; 2 daughters, Aleta M. Boyd and Jeri L. Boyd Steen, her son, Joel M. Boyd; all of Aurora, Colorado; her brother, Ceasar L. McDowell and sister in law Solmaz of Watertown, Massachusetts; 2 grandchildren, Jalan J. Boyd and Jordyn Lynn Steen both of Aurora, Colorado; her aunts, Ida Lee Paul of Denver, Colorado and Cornelius "Pete" (Cal) Fenrick of Waxhaw, North Carolina; 2 cousins who were like a brother and sister, Glenn D Jackson (Marian) and Mary Ann Threats (Earl), both of Aurora; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
