Vernon Wayne Dorsey Sr, was born on Feburary 2, 1946 in Tyler, TX, to Aaron Sr. and Agnes Dorsey. He was the fifth of seven children born into this family, five brothers and one sister. Growing up with Aaron, Sammie, Don, Theodore, Kenneth and Carolyn, Vernon enjoyed the love, companionship, and competition that comes with six boys, as well as learning how to care for and protect his sister.
Vernon was educated in the public-school system in Tyler, TX. He completed courses in transportation, preparing him for a career as a cross country truck driver. First Transit and ACE Express were among the companies that Vernon worked over the years. During his time on the road, Vernon developed a lung disease that caused his health to decline. He was eventually declared disabled.
In the early 80's, Vernon moved the "Mile High City". One of his gifts as well as his passion was cooking. It was very gratifying to share a home cooked meal with family and friends. Barbeque, seafood, and greens were among his signature dishes.
Sports of every kind was of great interest and enjoyment to Vernon. He stayed informed on sports trends in all seasons and could be found watching the games faithfully. He also enjoyed playing golf in his free time. It was expected that Jazz would be playing at home or in the car. He enjoyed music and the arts.
On April 20, 2019, Vernon Wayne Dorsey, Sr., departed this life. He is proceeded in death by his parents Aaron and Agnes Dorsey, his brother Aaron Jr., Theodore, Kenneth, and sister Carolyn. Left to cherish his memory is his brothers Sammie of Denver, Don (Arevia) Dorsey of Tyler, TX., son Vernon Jr. and daughter Mirita, two grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and beloved friends.
Death is the last chapter of time, but the first chapter of eternity.
