Vennis Elmer Lewis was born on March 15th, 1945, in Garrison, Texas to his parents Ernest, Jr. and Ruthie Lewis. Vennis grew up with his brothers, Elnorris, James, Fred, Chester, and sister, Velma. As a child, Vennis developed a strong work ethic that he would later pass down to his children.

Vennis matriculated through the Garrison public school system graduating from Garrison High School in 1963.

When Vennis met and married Angela on August 21, 1976, she was blessed to inherit two bonus children, Leta and Vennisa. To this union, Vennis Jr., and Marlena were born. Vennis led by example the importance of love, integrity, having a strong work ethic, and being a person of their word. The love and strength of his family was his greatest accomplishment. Vennis was blessed with six grandchildren who added an additional source of pride in his life. He was always supportive of their activities, celebrations, weddings, and graduations.

Vennis worked with IBM as a machinist. He worked tirelessly and faithfully for over 30 years before he retired. Vennis also served as an Elder in the Jehovah Witness Church. In his free time, Vennis enjoyed eating out, traveling, and dancing.

Vennis was an exceptional man who will be missed by everyone honored to be in his presence. His family and friends will miss his infectious smile, his support of others, kindness and laughter.

Vennis departed this life on January 26, 2022. Those left to cherish his memory his loving wife, Angela; son, Vennis Jr.; daughters, Marlena (Timothy), Vennisa, and Leta; brother, James; grandchildren, Kia, Shane, Saniya, Maya, Maxwell, and Marvin; and great grandchildren, Langston and Savion.
