Trisha Raelene Turner II, was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was born on November 18, 1969 in Omaha, Nebraska to Jesse Scott and Janis Lewis. The eldest of two (younger sister, Alana Scott), Trisha enjoyed reading and excelled in school, receiving a journalism scholarship to attend the University of Nebraska - Lincoln after graduating from Omaha North High School. While there, Trisha married Samuel Turner and had a little girl, Ashley Turner, before deciding to move from Omaha to Denver, Colorado. They later divorced and both remained in Colorado where Trisha worked in marketing for various companies including "In the Black" magazine. During this time Trisha had another daughter, Aaliyah Griego-Turner, and decided two years later to move back to her hometown of Omaha. There Trisha remained in the marketing field working for UPS, St Joseph's Hospital (now Creighton Medical Center), Omaha.com, West Corporation and First National Bank. Trisha also became active with some local nonprofit boards including the Butler-Gast YMCA and took on a leadership role within her religious organization, the SGI-USA. After being diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer, Trisha focused more on her role as district leader within the SGI and joined My Sister's Keeper, a local organization that provided support for African American women diagnosed with breast cancer. She also helped with UNMC's Navigator program which assists newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, providing them with a support sponsor that can attend doctor's appointments if family cannot, assisting them in the process of healing. Originally given a few months to live, Trisha triumphed against cancer for 5 1/2 years, despite the disease metastasizing in other areas, until she passed in the early morning of December 9, 2016 of complications. Trisha is survived by her mother (Janis Lewis), two daughters (Ashley Turner and Aaliyah Griego-Turner) sister (Alana Scott), niece (Camáe Scott), cousins (Ruby Sanders & her four children and Joseph P. Sanchell) and other family. They and her friends will continue to cherish her life and celebrate her strong spirit and determination.
