Tommie Robinson

Tommie Edward Robinson was born on July 9, 1924, in Camden, South Carolina to his parents, Tom Robinson and Alice Williams Robinson. Tommie was the oldest son of nine children, four brothers, Harry, Allen, Andrew, Sammie and four sisters, Bessie, Katie, Alice, and Sallie. He received his formal education in Camden, where he completed grade school. The family lived between Camden, South Carolina and New York City. Tommie enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1943. He was stationed at various post and bases both foreign and domestic. He served tours at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Buckley AFB in Colorado and in the South Pacific. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged in 1947. After his military tour of duty, Tommie settled in Denver, Colorado. Tommie united in holy matrimony to the former, Beverly Maxey. They first met in Denver, Colorado. To this union, Thomas and Diane were born. He was a loving and devoted father whose primary concern was the care and nurture of his family. He was later blessed with five grandchildren, Malik, Maia, Mallan, Leslie, Cherish and six great grandchildren, Ximalma, Kareni, Mallan, Alaysia, Jahbrea and Amani who all were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. Tommie was a man who never shied away from hard work. He has worked in construction and in the meat packing industry. He was respected by his co-workers for his willingness to get along with others and never complaining about the work being too strenuous or labor intensive. In the packing plant, he was given the nickname "Packing House." He would carry the nickname for the rest of his life. Tommie later became employed with some of his close friends in the cleaning industry. He worked for a number of years at the Holy Redeemer Church in the Park Hill Community of Denver. After retiring, he resided in the Bean Tower Apartments, where he was close to his old stomping ground, the Historic Five Points Community. Porter's and Waiter's was his favorite hangout which was close to his home. Tommie was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. His closest friends, Myra Warren and Eugene Whitefield will miss the camaraderie's they all shared together and the fact that he was a true and trusted friend. Tommie had an infectious smile that would light any room he entered. He will be missed for his generosity of self and his resources. He leaves a legacy that will always be treasured and void that can never be filled. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Diane K. Robinson; a granddaughter, Cherish Batie; his parents, Tom and Alice Robinson and siblings, Sammie Robinson, Harry Robinson, Allen Robinson and Katie Robinson, and Sallie Robinson. Tommie Robinson departed this life in the early morning of July 10, 2015, one day after celebrating his 91st birthday. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his wife, Beverly Maxey Robinson of Denver; his son, Thomas E. Robinson, his daughter-in-law, Cleo Parker Robinson of Denver; his siblings, Andrew Robinson of Camden, SC, Bessie Watkins of Camden, SC, Alice Norfleet of Jamaica, NY; his grandchildren, Malik, Maia, Mallan, and Leslie Robinson; his great grandchildren, Ximalma Gonzalez and Xareni Gonzalez Robinson, Mallan and Alaysia Macon-Robinson, JahBrea and Amani Robinson. Tommie has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
