Thomascene Lee

March 7, 1949 — January 27, 2015

The life of Thomascene C. Lee began when she blessed her parents, Reverend Lester Crowe and Josie Hart Crowe with her birth on March 7, 1949, in Hobbs, New Mexico. She was the sixth child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Robert, Willie and her sisters, Eloise, Mae, Jacquelyn and Corlis. As a child, she wanted to be a minister following in the footsteps of both her parents. She and her siblings often played church in the front yard with many of the neighborhood children. Thomascene received her formal education in Hobbs, where she graduated from Eagle High School. On November 9, 1964, she united in holy matrimony to Joel Burch Gay. They first met when they both lived in Hobbs. To this union, a beautiful baby girl they named Lisa was born. Lisa fondly remembers her mother as loving, nurturing and always available when needed. They shared many happy and precious moments together. By profession, Thomascene was employed as a Beautician. She was skilled and talented in her work. She performed her duties with excellence and precision. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Thomascene was a faithful and dedicated member of Zion Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. She joined the church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Frank M. Davis. She was baptized on May 5, 2013. She loved her church and the fellowship shared with her church family. Thomascene was a fun loving woman who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends. She earned a trophy for ballroom dancing in 2010. She was a participant in the RCB Leadership Conference in 2007 and 2008. She wanted to become more familiar with computers and took a class in June of 2006. She worked diligently with the Denver Housing Authority to aid and assists the elderly. There is a song in which the words so accurately describe her life "If I can help somebody as I travel along, then my living shall not be in vain." Well done Thomascene Lee, the work you have done speaks for you. Thomascene C. Lee departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on January 27, 2015, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her daughter, Lisa S. (Fanene) Gay of Denver; her sister, Corlis (Michael) Graham of Centennial, Colorado and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends.
