Theresa Chapman

Theresa "Grannie" Chapman was born February 24, 1934 in the Good Hope community of Hickory, Mississippi. She was the only child to born to the union of Jim and Sophie Mitchell. In 1952, she married Will Chapman, Jr. and from this union five children were born, Ouida Fay, Willie Calvin, James Earl, Percy Lee and Nyla "Nola" Rochia. Will and Theresa moved to Denver, Colorado in 1955 for a new start as they being their journey together. Within her spiritual journey, Theresa was a part of both New Hope and Greater St. John Baptist churches. Theresa operated with excellence within the gift of helps and this gift was especially revealed as Theresa accomplished a 24-year career as a nursing assistant at the Aurora Care Center, where she truly enjoyed working with her Alzheimer's patients. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening and was known for cooking and baking. She loved to feed any and every one to include her beloved dog, Tessie and the neighborhood squirrel, Herman. Because she had such a bright and beautiful personality, Theresa was blessed with many meaningful friendships. Her biggest joy in life was her grandchildren. For as many as she had, she knew how to make each one feel like the favorite. Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Sophie Mitchell; and her son-in-law, William Pleasants. Theresa "Grannie" Chapman departed this life on August 9, 2016 in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory include her five children - Ouida Fay Pleasants, Willie Calvin, James (Denise) Earl, Percy Lee and Nyla "Nola" Rochia Garth; 10 grandchildren, Qiesha V. (LeVantz) Lewis, Napoya L. Jones, Tayombay S. Weeks, Terry M. Garth, Tenisha L. (Nathan, Sr.) Kirchhoff, Theresa M. Garth, Christopher Williams, Copeland T. Jones, Delana A. Pleasants, Chudney Jones; 20 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
