Suzette Monique Linnie, lovingly known as “Nikki” or “NuNu” to her family and closest friends, was born on July 1, 1969, at Mercy Hospital in Denver, Colorado, to the union of Samuel L. Linnie and James Etta Linnie.
Nikki grew up in Denver and attended Loyola Catholic School, Smiley Middle School, and George Washington High School. She was cherished by many friends, especially those she grew up with on Krameria Street in the Park Hill neighborhood. Nikki often reminisced about her childhood on “The K Block,” where she spent countless joyful days riding bikes, roller skating, and playing with Barbies. While others had Ken dolls, Nikki’s Barbie had a unique boyfriend—Foster Silver of “The Silvers,” whom she cut out from her older brother’s album cover.
Nikki was known for her vibrant personality and a sense of humor that could leave anyone in stitches. Her ability to tell stories was unmatched, turning simple anecdotes into unforgettable moments filled with laughter. One could easily visualize her tales, brought to life by her charm and wit. Her driving skills, however, left much to be desired—let’s just say, “You better buckle up!”
A self-proclaimed “Daddy’s Girl,” Nikki shared a special bond with her father, Samuel. They created lasting memories fishing together, attending plays, concerts like The Wiz, and dining at the finest restaurants. Alongside her mother and best friend Tory, Nikki embraced these outings with joy and sophistication. The trio’s bond was so strong that Tory once stayed snowed in at Nikki’s house during the Blizzard of ’82. Their parents also took them on vacations outside of Denver, fostering memories that Nikki cherished throughout her life. Nikki and Tory supported each other through many significant events, including the birth of Nikki’s firstborn, Paris Ray Linnie.
In 1989, Nikki began working at Esquire Cleaners, where she met Philip Soublet. Their love blossomed, and in 1990, they welcomed their son, Philip Soublet Jr. Nikki and Philip married in 1991, and although life took them on separate paths, their love as a remained unbroken.
In 1995, Nikki gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Endia Sierra who she also called “CiCi.” Nikki was endlessly proud of Endia and celebrated all her accomplishments. There weren’t too many days that Nikki wasn’t bragging about Endia.
She was incredibly proud of Paris as well and all he had achieved, especially his marriage to his loving wife, Sabrina Scott (Linnie) in 2020
In 2014, Nikki made the bold decision to move to New Orleans, Louisiana, to be with Philip and the Soublet family. While there, she achieved significant milestones, including completing her education and becoming a federal employee. She thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with her grandson, PJ, while living in New Orleans. Her immediate family and friend Tory visited her there, witnessing the joy she experienced in her new life.
She returned to Denver in 2018. Carrying with her the memories and heartache of both her mother’s passing and leaving New Orleans. These two traumatic events made it difficult for Nikki to regain the solid ground she yearned for daily.
Nikki’s singing, dancing, and infectious laugh will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Suzette Monique Linnie is survived by her loving children, Paris Ray Linnie and Endia Sierra Linnie; daughter in law Sabrina Linnie, her cherished grandson, Philip Hall III; and a host of extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and James Etta Linnie; her son, Philip Soublet Jr.; her brother, Robert Linnie; and her nephew, Dwayne Linnie.
Nikki’s light, laughter, and love will remain in our hearts forever. So sassy, so witty, full of life and a hell of a spades player.
