Stephanie Denise Barnett was born on December 9, 1959, in Lubbock, TX to RL Barnett and Wanda Daniels. She had two sisters, Kim and Tika and five brothers, Tony, Curtis, Todd, Billy and Stevie from her mother. Stephanie was the second child born into the family. From her father, she had three sisters, Sherri, SaBrina and Tonya and one brother, James.
When Stephanie was 5 years old, the family moved to California and lived there for 7 years before settling in Colorado. Stephanie attended Manual High School and later went back to get her GED. She worked as a nurse’s aide for many years. Once her career ended as a nurse’s aide, Stephanie held various jobs to support herself and her only son, Shawn.
Stephanie’s mother Wanda wanted her to learn how to cook, clean and do the duties in the home since she was the only girl living with five brothers. She was made to wash and iron their clothes and cook and clean for them. This did not make Stephanie happy. So, one day, she baked cookies for her siblings and after they were eaten all up, she told them she spit in the cookies. Well to say the least, she had to fight Curt all around the house.
Stephanie was a kindhearted loving person. She would give her last to help anyone in need. She loved her family and was crazy about her grandchildren. Any activity they had; she would make it a priority to be there to support them. She would brag to everyone about how great her grandchildren were. In her eyes, no one else’s grandchildren were better than hers.
Stephanie loved to gossip, boy did she love a good juicy story. She would make sure she would call her mother with the latest news that would come down the airway. Along with gossip, she loved to cook. There was no turning down food when you went to her house. If you weren’t hungry, too bad, you still had to sit down and eat. That was one thing she did not play about. You left her house full, whether you wanted to or not. Her sweet potato pie, hot water cornbread and banana pudding had the hearts of many.
Stephanie passed her time with scratch tickets. No matter where she went, she had scratch tickets to occupy her time. Whether she was in the hospital or at home, she had a ticket somewhere close to her.
Stephanie will be truly missed by all who know her. She had a funny demeanor and a distinctive laugh that anyone who knew her knew what that laugh was all about. She was loved by all and touched many lives.
