Life Story
Stanton Brian Miller, Sr., a beacon of resilience and love, was born on July 29, 1959, Biloxi, Mississippi, to the proud Theodore and Dorothy Miller. As the family moved to Westbury, New York, little did they know that this spirited child would grow into a remarkable man whose impact would resonate throughout his community and beyond.
In his formative years, Stan emerged as a natural leader, dedicating his time and energy to ten various activities at school. Serving as President of both his sophomore and junior class, he also engaged with the Audio Visual Department and participated in the National Student Exchange program. His talents shone brightly, earning him the Master’s Award for excellence in Print Class during his senior year.
A man of service, he led the Westbury chapter of Kiwanis International and became a prominent member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. His commitment to civic duty was evident when he worked tirelessly on the Carter Campaign for President in 1977, culminating in a treasured moment with President Jimmy Carter himself, a testament to his dedication.
With a heart set on innovation, Stanton chose Rochester Institute of Technology, where he pursued a degree in graphic arts with an emphasis on print production. His path was forever changed by an internship where he taught deaf students the principles of printing using sign language—a role that filled him with joy and pride.
Love found its way into Stanton’s life when he married Sharon, welcoming his first son, Stanton Junior. In 1989, a new chapter began as he relocated to Denver for an opportunity as the head of advertising at May D&F Department Store (now Macy’s). Here, he encountered his true soulmate, Saundra Miller. Together, they embraced the beauty of family life, welcoming their son Sedric and cherishing the moments with Saundra’s daughter Tracee and Stanton Jr blending their lives in a tapestry of love
Stanton’s journey as Vice President of Citigroup was marked by extensive travel, overseeing advertisements for Citibank and various firms. Yet, it was in 1997 that a significant challenge arose; a severe stroke transformed his world. Though initially daunting, Stanton’s spirit refused to be quelled. Known lovingly as “Stan the Man, the Hardest Working Man in Denver,” he transformed adversity into opportunity, immersing himself in automotive repairs, household tasks, and even honing his culinary skills. His passion for laundry became legendary, bringing comfort and joy to those around him. In addition, he also enjoyed international travel both near and far with his family.
Every year, Stanton’s boundless enthusiasm came alive during the Christmas season, when he transformed their home into a festive wonderland. His creativity earned him recognition as one of Metro Denver’s top outdoor decorators—a twist of joy that embodied his spirit.
Stanton’s legacy extended beyond his home. He was featured as one of three African Americans in the informative “Life After Stroke” documentary, dedicated to educating communities about the realities of strokes and inspiring hope for a fulfilling life after such hardships.
A man of unwavering faith, Stanton actively served as an usher at Heritage Christian Center, finding purpose and joy in his ministry.
Chasing the sunset, Stanton leaves behind a treasure of memories woven into the hearts of those who loved him. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents and cherished brother Allan. His memory is carried forward by his devoted wife Saundra, his children Tracee of Atlanta Georgia, Stanton Jr. (Debora) of Geneva, Switzerland, and Sedric of Aurora, Colorado, along with his grandchildren Gianna and Naomi. His legacy continues through close cousins, an adopted sister, and a vast network of family, friends and loved ones, all who were graced by his remarkable presence.
As we celebrate the life of Stanton B, Miller Sr with his infectious smile and a spirit that inspired, his generosity impacted innumerable lives, and his love will forever echo in the hearts of those he cherished.
