Alex Butler Mitchell was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1926, in Arcola, Mississippi to his parents, Charlie Mitchell and Flora Lee Patterson Mitchell. He was the second child born in the family. He received his formal education in Mississippi; where he graduated from high school. Shortly after graduation, Alex enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country, he was stationed in many ports both foreign and domestic. Alex served with honor and distinction. While serving his country, he received numerous awards, citations and ribbons for his meritorious service. Alex retired after 23 years of faithful and dedicated service to his country at the rank of Staff Sergeant. On December 27, 1950, Alex united in holy matrimony to the former Allene Johnson. They decided to settle in Denver, Colorado. They built a home together. They shared many happy and precious moments together. Their union of marriage span for over 62 years when Allene preceded him in death. After his service discharge, Alex became employed by Fitzsimons Army Medical Center as a Motor Vehicle Operator within its Maintenance Division. He performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. He again retired, after 29 more years of dedicated service to the government. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Alex joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. He truly enjoyed the wisdom and knowledge he gained as he studied Gods Word in spirit and in truth. He has been a member for over fifty years. Alex was a fun loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed spending quality time with his closest friends and buddies, "Beasley", Walter, Norman, Eddie, Banks, and Johnny. They will miss the comraderies they all shared together and the fact that he was a true and trusted friend. They all will also miss his military stories and the regular conversations they all shared together. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Alex was to love him. Alex Butler Mitchell departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on November 7, 2014, in Denver, Colorado. He leaves to cherish his memory and to mourn his loss a loving and caring family and many friends.
