Sonya Onez Sebree
Sonya Onez Sebree was born on December 22, 1960, in Evansville, Indiana to her parents, Owen D. Sebree and Mattie Darlene Williams Sebree. She was the second child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her sister, Lynn. The family shared many happy and memorable moments together.
Sonya received her early education in Denver, Colorado where, she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. She furthered her education by attending the University of Colorado at Denver, where she earned a bachelor’s degree.
The Sebree family relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1963. They became members of Zion Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend Wendell T. Liggins. Sonya was baptized at a very young age. She sang in the Youth Choir and served as President. She believed in the power of prayer and having the right relationship with the Lord. She could accurately quote bible scriptures with little effort. Sonya was very active in the ministries within the church. She was a phenomenal Sunday School Teacher and she also taught Vacation Bible School. She truly loved the Lord.
Sonya was employed by Sebree Accounting Service, a company owned and operated by her father, the late Deacon/Trustee Owen D. Sebree. She greeted and assisted with customers. She was hard working, dedicated, and performed her duties with a spirit of excellence.
Sonya was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, visiting with many of her church family, her friends, to include many from school, and work. She shared a special closeness with many of the staff from the Highline Rehabilitation Center. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Sonya was to love her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Owen D. Sebree and Mattie D. Sebree.
Sonya O. Sebree departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on April 28, 2023, in Denver, Colorado. Left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her sister, Lynn O. Sebree of Aurora, Colorado and a host of other relatives and many friends.
