Time Well Remembered "When I Must Leave You" When I must leave you for a little while, Please do not grieve and shed wild tears. But start out greatly with a gallant smile, And for my sake and in my name, Live on and do all things the same. Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer, And I, in turn, will comfort you and hold you near. And never, never, be afraid to die, For I am waiting for you in the sky. A Time To Be Born Solomon Suggs, Jr., was born on October 23, 1932, in Perry, Florida to the late Solomon Suggs, Sr. and Alice Suggs. He was the second sibling of a family of seven brothers and sisters. He was affectionately called "Jun" by some and "Sol" by other family and friends. A Time To Live "Sol" attended school in Kissimmee and Ocala, Florida. However, the family moved to Fort Pierce, Florida in 1949. He graduated from Lincoln Park Academy High School in Fort Pierce, Florida, in 1950. He was an honor student and a star athlete. He played baseball, softball, basketball, and football. However, his passion was baseball. As a teenager, "Sol" loved to go fishing with his grandfather and brothers. He was an avid reader, thereby having a special love for comic books and reading the sports section of the newspapers. "Sol" enjoyed playing and talking about sports. On any given day, he was capable of recalling and quoting athletic teams' stats and who scored the winning touchdown, homerun, or basket. He enjoyed attending sports games for both high school and professional teams. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force to serve his country. Solomon met and later married Alma Raullerson and started a family. To that union three children were born: Charlotte Suggs, Solomon Suggs, III, and Carin Suggs. During his military career, he was an all-star baseball and softball player. His athletic ability afforded him the opportunity to play baseball and softball around the world. After 28 years in the Air Force, Solomon Retired with honors as a Staff Sergeant. "Sol" loved his family and would make his yearly pilgrimage to Fort Pierce, Florida to attend family reunions, birthday celebrations, fishing trips (Rev. Attorney Curtis Randolph), and to enjoy the "Florida Sunshine." While in Fort Pierce, "Sol" actively participated in worship services at St. Paul A.M.E. Church and Holy Ghost Deliverance Evangelistic Temple. He enjoyed attending church and served in the church wherever he was needed. He enjoyed talking and sharing his wealth of wisdom and knowledge with others. A Time To Leave God Had A Reason… God saw the road was getting rough; the hills were hard to climb, God gently closed his loving eyes and whispered, "Peace Be Thine." His weary hours and days of pain, His weary nights are past; His ever patient, worn out frame, He found sweet peace at last. He was preceded in death by his son, Solomon Suggs, III; daughter, Charlotte Suggs- Sims; his parents Solomon Suggs, Sr. and Alice Suggs- Breaux; and a sister, Hattie Suggs- Shaw; and brother, Isaiah Suggs. When Solomon's health began to fail, whenever he was asked how he was doing, his response was always "EXCELLENT or GREAT." At his home in Denver, Colorado, on Thursday, September 25, 2014, Solomon Suggs, Jr. completed the last mile of the way. He was called to his heavenly home. Heart-felt memories of his love, his smile and acts of kindness will be forever cherished by: his children, Carin Suggs and Milton Fishburn, Ernestine Fishburn; grandchildren, Troy (Jamila) Dudley, Richard Suggs, Jay Suggs, Teyonna Fishburn, and Clarence Shook, Talgin Hank, Jr.; great grandchildren, Andrew Craig, Rashawn Williams, Javone Williams, Gabriel Winegarner-Suggs, Makhi Johnston, Charnessa Dudley; brothers, Roosevelt (Veola) Suggs, Sr. of Columbus, Ohio, Charlie (Cheryl) Suggs of Fort Pierce, Florida; sisters, Evangelist Joan (Rev. He wished no one a last farewell, He never said good-bye. He was gone before we knew it, And only God knows why. His busy hands are resting now, His work on earth is done. His sickness is all over now, And his heavenly crown is won.
