Here lay before us, a black woman who sparkled like a diamond, with a heart of pure gold.
Shirley Weatherspoon Moore was born to Will and Dillia (Banks) Weatherspoon on March 30, 1932. She was the fifth child of twelve born to this union. Growing up, Shirley always insisted on helping others. Even though she was the fifth child born, she would discipline her siblings anytime they did wrong regardless of their age. Shirley was educated in through Merigold Public Schools in Mississippi. Later in life, God brought J.T. Moore into her life, they were happily married until, his passing 28 years later. To this holy matrimony, six children, Barbara, Charles, Mary, Shirley , JoAnn and John where born. She was a loving and devoted mother, who took great pride in the care and nurture of her family.
Shirley was a kindhearted and good spirited person. She would give the shirt off her back for anyone in need. Shirley tried her best to make people comfortable, she welcomed everyone into her home and made sure that they never left with an empty stomach. To know Shirley was to know how loving, kind and hospitable she was. She was a very outspoken person who did not hesitate to call it how she saw it. Shirley lived a good life, and she knew how blessed she was. Shirley knew the Lord for herself and made sure that everyone knew where her help came from. She knew no strangers and was friendly to all. Her impactful legacy continues to live on through all who were fortunate to have known her.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Will Weatherspoon and Dillia (Banks) Weatherspoon; three children, Barbara Moore, Shirley Spencer and John Moore, four grandchildren, Isaac L. Dodd Jr., Shon Moore, Anne Mae Moore and Felisha Moore; seven brothers and two sisters.
Shirley passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2021. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include, her children, Charles Moore, Mary Crayton both of St. Louis, MO and JoAnn Collins of Denver, CO; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Moore; son-in-law, Stanley Spencer; 12 grandchildren, Carolyn Moore Glasby, Theodore Moore, Tawana Spencer, Barbara Ann Moore, Stanley Moore Jr., Mary Moore, Brian Moore, Bobby Collins Jr., DeMon Wiley Collins Sr., Noni Macharia and John Moore Jr.; sister, Pearlie Mae Taylor; brother, Joe Weatherspoon; seven nieces, Doreese Taylor, Sandy Taylor, Donna Taylor, Marie Weatherspoon, Donna Weatherspoon, Brenda Weatherspoon, Jordyn Weatherspoon; five nephews, Rodney Taylor, Percy Weatherspoon Jr., Mark Weatherspoon, Luke Weatherspoon, Roosevelt Weatherspoon Jr.; sister-in-law’s, Valerie Weatherspoon and Linda Weatherspoon; a host of greatgrandchildren; great greatgrandchildren, host of relatives and friends.
