Precious Memories

Shaton Anita Smith

You are not forgotten, loved one Nor will you ever be, As long as life and memory last,

we will remember thee. We miss you now, our hearts are sore, as time goes by

we’ll miss you more. Your loving smile, your gentle face,

no one can fill your vacant place.

Shaton Anita Smith was born on February 16, 1973, in Dayton, Ohio to her parents, Tyrone Manley and Lavenia Smith.  She was the first born in the family.  She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Matthew, Kevin, and her sisters, Franadell, and Vicki.  As a child, she enjoyed bike riding, running track, and playing basketball.  A family memory of Shaton is her wanting to attend a concert with a friend and her grandmother screaming at her so hard.  She thought it was so funny.

Shaton received her formal education by attending Sierra High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  She furthered her education by attending The Community College of Aurora in Aurora, Colorado, where she earned an associate’s degree.

Shaton was the proud mother of sons, Donnell, Lorenzo, James, and daughters, Jasmine, and Devonia.  She was later blessed with ten grandchildren, Jayron, Elijah, Aundre, Jr., Jayzhour, Rhylee, Eeli’yaamarie, Rhyann, Payton, Hayden, LaZeah, and James.  They lovingly called her “Nana” and fondly remember her taking them to the mall and cooking for them.  They all shared many happy and precious moments together.

By profession, Shaton was employed in the banking industry.  She worked for Wells Fargo Bank as a Bank Teller. She was hard-working, dedicated, and performed her duties with meticulous detail.

A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Shaton was a member New Direction Baptist Church in Colorado Springs. She believed in the power of prayer and having the right relationship with the Lord.

Shaton was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled.  In her free time, she loved playing bingo, cooking, and spending quality time with family and friends.  Her closest friends, Tonya Adams, Tahira Love, Dawn Ward, Nancy Taylor, and Joseph Woodard will miss her kind heart and always keeping them all together as friends.  She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman.  To know Shaton was to love her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Tyrone Manley and Lavenia Smith.

Shaton Anita Smith departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on February 19, 2023, in Aurora, Colorado.  Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include 3 sons, Donnell O. (Daneille) Smith, Lorenzo L. Allen, and James L. Sturgeion, III; 2 daughters, Jasmine M. Goodloe and Devonia M. (Paul) Nettles; 2 brothers, Kevin Smith, and Matthew (Alicia) Sargent; 2 sisters, Vicki (Steve) Harris, and Franadell Smith; 10 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
