Sharron Ned

Sharron Marie (Hill) Ned was born on April 13, 1943 to the union of Lonnie D. Hill and Mable L. (Tennon) Hill in Haskell, Texas. Sharron was the eldest of 6 children: Brenda Gail Hill-Green, Sandra Kay Douglas, Beverly Yvonne Hill-Lumumba, Phyllis Louise Hill and Rhonda Loraine Hill. As a woman with an incredibly nurturing heart and loving spirit, Sharron always knew the importance of family. Her younger sisters could always depend on her for comfort and guidance.

Sharron accepted the lord at an early age and was an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Texas City, Texas. She was blessed with an angelic voice and used her gift to sing in the church choir. She was a 1st soprano and was affectionately known as the "voice of the choir". Sharron was always a "girlie girl", and always took pride in her appearance. As the "voice of the choir", she knew she had to look her best when she walked into church on Sunday mornings. So much in fact, Sharron and her best friend Sugar would go to the fields to pick cotton, so they could have enough money to go to Woolworth to buy material to bring home to have skirts made. They used any monies left over to buy new blouses to wear to church the next day.

Sharron’s favorite color was pink, which happens to represent warmth, softness, nurturer, and love. While she encompassed each of these qualities, she equally exuded an outer beauty unlike any other. Sharron was into her “smell-goods”: lotions, perfumes, and body wash. She loved her bold ravishing red-colored lipstick, that not only highlighted her cheekbones but accentuated her flawless teeth and beautiful smile. And Sharron's walk? Well, that was one to see! …It was sultry, yet elegant, and exuded purpose, beauty, confidence, and grace.

Although Sharron exuded beauty and grace, it was her resilience that stood out the most, as it was unlike any other. While there were many endearing moments for Sharron in Haskell, being raised there oftentimes had its challenges. It was her resilience that allowed her to overcome those challenges. After completing the 8th grade, Sharron was ready for High School. However, due to issues of segregation, her only option was to attend Dunbar High School, in Munday, TX, which was 21 miles away. Despite the distance, there was never a question in her mind that she would go, as she aspired to achieve more than just an 8th grade education.

Upon graduation from high school Sharron planned to go on to college, and study music. She was awarded a scholarship to attend college locally, but it was not enough to carry her through to completion. That did not stop her. She knew she wanted a better life for herself, so decided the only way to flourish was to leave Haskell, and the state of Texas. So, at the tender age of 18, she packed her belongings and moved to Denver, Colorado.

Soon after arriving in Denver, Sharron's beauty, poise, and nurturing spirit eventually caught the eyes of a suitor. Gable "Brother Gabe", Ned, whom she ultimately married, and was married to for over 30 years. During the early years of her marriage, Sharron embraced her life as a homemaker and mother to 7 children: Reverend Terri L. Davis;

Michael A. Ned (deceased), Bernique "Nique" N. Abiakam, Tolani N. Ned (deceased), Timothy K. Ned, Myra A. Westmoreland, and Khallela A. Fletcher. After all her children were a little older, and in school, Sharron began working in food service at St. Luke's Presbyterian Hospital, until her retirement.

Over the years, Sharron developed her many talents into things that left people amazed and speechless. She was a phenomenal chef (and those who ever took a single bite of her cooking or baked goods could attest), interior decorator, seamstress and crocheter. She was inherently creative and could always make something amazing out of nothing at all. Everything she did was with love; from her gentle touch, to her sweet-sounding voice, to the care and love she put into everything she created. She was always there for her children, and her children's children whenever they called. Even if it meant uprooting herself and traveling many states over to care for a family member in need.

Sharron was innovative, creative, caring, nurturing, and loving. To have known her was to have loved her. Whether you called her "Mama" "Sharron", "Mrs. Ned", "Auntie", "Grandma", "GiGi", or "Shaddy-Gal", you always knew and felt the love from her, which will be terribly missed.

Sharron Marie Ned was called home to be with God on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, and leaves to cherish her memory...her sisters, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.
