Elmer Henson, Jr. was born on September 27, 1947, to the union of Elmer Henson Sr. and Mariah Shaw Henson in Lake Providence, Louisiana located in the East Carroll Parish. While living in Lake Providence, he attended public school at G.W. Griffin High School, until the beginning of his senior year. His parents then relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada; there he, graduated from Rancho High School in 1965. Shortly after graduation, Elmer enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country, he was stationed from Germany to Colorado Springs, Colorado. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharge. After his military discharge, Elmer joined the U.S. Army Reserve. He retired after twenty years of service. Elmer furthered his education by enrolling in the Culinary Arts School located in Virginia. He became an excellent chef. He was known and admired for creating wonderful dishes that offered beautiful presentation and great nutrition. He always encouraged family and friends to "eat right." Elmer found employment in Denver and decided to call it "home." There he met and later married Julia Christian Henson. They first met while attending a social gathering. They shared many happy and precious moments together. Julia preceded him in death in 2013. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Elmer accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized in 1991, by the late Pastor W. H. Green at Genesis Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. He continued his walk with the Lord under the pastoral leadership of Pastor John L. Brown Sr. He truly enjoyed the knowledge and wisdom he was gaining as he studied the Bible. Elmer will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Elmer was to love him. He is also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. Elmer Henson, Jr. transitioned into eternity on May 22, 2013. Those left to cherish his memory include four sisters, Carrie Wells, St. Louis, MO, Gloria Morgan, Nora (Cleveland) Spann, and Jerry Stark, all of Las Vegas, NV; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
