Samuel "Sam" Franklin Jones Junior entered the world on October 5, 1935, to his parents Samuel F. Jones Senior and Evelyn N. Jones in Little Rock, Arkansas. Later Barbara and Fredrick (Fred) were born completing the Jones family. As a child living in Little Rock he loved being called "Sam Junior" because he so greatly admired his enterprising father. Although Sam's journey began as a child raised in the segregated south his large family surrounded him with protection and love. They were never far away. Additionally, during the Depression his family always shared their wealth from the businesses established by his father and uncle along Little Rock's 9th Street. His schooling in Little Rock began at Gibbs Elementary and Dunbar Junior High School. When the family moved to Denver in 1949 Sam was 13. It was a difficult transition for any young boy but for Sam it was more traumatic due to the death of his father. Led and encouraged by his Mother, Sam Jr. and family went forward. He built strong bonds within the Five Points community and continued his schooling at Cole Junior High and then later at Manual High School. Keeping his connections with his birth city of Little Rock, Sam attended Dunbar High School reunions where he spent time with old classmates and recounted Dunbar's rich history. Sam's true love and life partner of sixty plus years was Beverly A. Jones, affectionately called "Bev". As a young couple they shared a love of music, particularly jazz, dancing and socializing with family and friends. To this union was born Risë, Nanette and Angela, known as "the girls". Due to Sam's sense of adventure, Sam, Bev, and the girls, enjoyed skating, sledding, swimming, and camping. Sam's more than casual interest in motorcycles and motorcycle racing cannot be forgotten. Sam's passion for motorcycles took the family to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota during the 1960's before this event was a "cool" thing to do. Sam and Bev's biggest dream for their girls was for them to become educated and self-sufficient women. Therefore, they ensured that each of their daughters entered and graduated college. At family gatherings, Sam would often proudly boast about their college graduations. Through the influence of an uncle, Sam became a bricklayer and a member of Denver's Brick-layers' Union Local Number 1. Being a true craftsmen, Sam often pointed out and critiqued buildings that he helped to create. Sam's hard-work and skill led to him working on projects ranging from the Denver Zoo to Denver's Writer's Square. He proudly remained a member of the union for 50 years. Samuel Franklin Jones Junior was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister. His life and legacy will be carried forward by his wife Beverly A. Jones; his brother, Fredrick B. Jones (Olivia); his daughters, Risë A. Jones (Louis), Nanette Jones-Potts (Darryl) and Angela Jones (Reginald); his grandchildren, Ajaa R. Long (Sean), Daniel F. Potts, Sunni I. Jones-Ford (Antonio) and Darryl O. White Junior; his great-grandchildren Daniel S. Potts, Layla N. White, Giselle G. Long, Preston R. White and Sienna R.
