Sabrina Jo Benz, Age 33 of Los Angeles, passed away on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020. She was born to Harold Mims (deceased) and Bobbie Jo (Powell) Barsock on June 19th, 1986.
Sabrina attended Crenshaw High School before attending Hamline University where she received her B.A. degree while majoring in social justice with a concentration in religion. Sabrina was a devout member of Park Hill United Methodist Church. Sabrina was involved with the beneficent organizations McVay Youth Partnership and Pittsburgh Health Corps. Sabrina devoted her further career to a variety of social work including time at Jewish Residential Services of Pittsburgh, Jewish Family Services of Denver, Maple Star Colorado, Third Way Center, Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, and Rocky Mountain Human Services.
Sabrina is survived by her husband Oscar, her daughter Parvati, her son Asa, her mother Bobbie, her siblings Herbert, Jerome (deceased), LaNell (deceased), and Cory, her sister-in-law Jin, her nephew Aiden, her mother-in-law Nancy, her father-in-law James, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Many more family and friends are bereaved.
Pipkin Braswell Funeral Home will host a family viewing on Thursday, April 30th. On Friday, May 1st, Park Hill United Methodist Church will host a memorial service. Sabrina is to be interred at Inglewood Park Cemetery with the Powell family. Any and all memorials will be dedicated to Parvati and Asa's future education.
Sabrina was a beacon of light unto the world
Lord God shone through Sabrina for all of her life
We were all blessed to know her
Sabrina's light has now escaped us
And though the world may now be bereft
Heaven has gained a most brilliant hue for the celestial chorus
