Ruth Marie Bibbs was born on March 10, 1936, to Anderson Booker and Cora Mae Tapp Booker in Great Bend, Kansas. She was the 10th child born to the couple. As a child, Ruth grew up in Great Bend, Kansas where she received her early education. Ruth was known as "Marie" to her parents and siblings.
In 1955, Ruth met a sailor stationed in Kansas. That sailor, Eddie Bibbs would soon become her husband of 61 years, until his death in 2016. The couple began their marriage in Kansas City, Missouri, where they had 3 children Cynthia, Denise and Eddie Jr. They relocated to Denver Colorado and another child, Tyree was added to the family.
Ruth's main focus was to care for her family. She had learned to sew at any early age and became a talented Seamstress. Ruth would make many of her daughters clothing. In the early 70's Ruth opened a dress making shop on 28th Fairfax. It was called, Ruth's Alteration and Dressmaking.
In the late 1970's Ruth decided to pursue another career. She worked in the cafeteria of the Joslin's Department store in downtown Denver. When the store closed, she became employed in the Dietary Services Department at Mercy Hospital. Ruth worked for Mercy until its closure in the 1990's. Ruth took on odd jobs after that until her retirement.
Ruth's health declined. Although Ruth is no longer with us she will be remembered as a caring, loving, compassionate mother, wife, grandmother, sister and aunt.
