Ruby Campbell

June 6, 1935 — October 7, 2014

Ruby Lee Campbell was born on June 6, 1935, in Vidalia, Louisiana to her parents, Lee Campbell and Mildred Hines Campbell. She was the first born in the family. She was raised surrounded by the love of her sister, Mildred. As a child, she loved being a big sister and being in charge. She received her formal education in Piney Woods, Mississippi, where she attended the Piney Woods Country Life Boarding School. Ruby was the proud mother of a beautiful baby girl she named, Nicole. She was a loving and devoted mother whose pride and joy was the care and nurture of her daughter. Nicole remembers her mother as strong, sweet and kind. She taught her the importance of being responsible and to lead by example. She also remembers her as always being prepared and having a fortuitous insight; being able to know the outcome of a given situation before it happened. They shared many happy and precious moments together. Ruby was later blessed with a granddaughter, named Campbell Nicole Martin or to grandmother, "Peaches." Campbell was an additional source of joy and pride in her life. The time shared together was immeasurable and memorable. At the time of her passing, Nicole was expecting the birth of a second grandchild. By profession, Ruby was employed by St. Joseph's Hospital for over thirty years. She was respected and admired by her employers and coworkers for being hard working, dependable and performing her duties with a spirit of excellence. She made several friends while working and they have maintained a close friendship over the years. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Ruby accepted the Lord as her personal savior at a very early age. She has been a member of Macedonia Baptist Church for over 52 years. She served her church and the Lord as a member of the EE Whitfield Missionary Society, Circle number nine, and wherever she was needed. She truly enjoyed the worship service and the comradery shared with her church family. Ruby was a fun loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, and having a well-manicured yard adorned with beautiful flowers. Her closest friends, Susie Ross and Marie Scott will miss the special moments they shared together and the fact that she was a true and trusted friend. Ruby was a lady, who hated cooking but loved eating. She was an avid fan of "Dancing with the Stars" and "The View". She loved watching the Denver Broncos and spending quality time with family and friends. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known the one of a kind lady and "Queen of a Woman." To know Ruby was to love her. Ruby Lee Campbell departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on October 7, 2014, in her home in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her daughter, Nicole C. (Albert) Martin, IV of Washington, DC; her sister, Mildred N. Bufford of Chicago, Illinois; her granddaughter, Campbell N. Martin of Washington, DC and a host of relatives and friends.
