Ross Alan Alexander, 83, Denver, Colorado passed away on Friday, November 27 at his home in Denver, Colorado. Ross was born August 11, 1937 in Hoxie, Kansas, the son of Earl Alexander and Anita Griffie Alexander in Graham County Kansas. His mother was visiting her mother, when he was born. He spent his childhood in Kansas. He attended elementary, middle school and high school in Hill City in Graham County. He grew up working hard on the farm, milking cows before he went to school, and came home, and had farm chores. He spent his time raising quarter horses, working on cars.
He was self-taught mechanic and most of his time was spent farming and had little time for extracurricular activities. He played some basketball in high school. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening all his life. He attended Nicodemus AME Church in Nicodemus, Kansas were his father and grandfather were deacon and trustee.
He dropped out of high school and went into the Korean War 1955, and returned and married his childhood sweetheart Ruth Jones, Hill City, KS and became step-father Cynthia Napue on August 21, 1958. In that union two children were born; Debra Alexander and Julie Alexander. He went into the Vietnam war and remained until earlier 70’s. His branch of service was the Airforce and he was stationed in Vietnam. He worked on military aircrafts as a mechanic, he was a loadmaster, crew chief and flew helicopters and refueling aircraft. He was civilian with the federal government. He later received GED, and attended college at Sacramento State University in Sacramento, California and in Buffalo New York. His emphasis was Real Estate and Financial Management. He taught a few classes at Jones Real Estate School in Denver, Colorado in 1980’s. He completed an Extensive Appraisal Program sponsored by the Department of Housing and Urban development (FEMA & FHA). Twenty-Seven years HUD.
He divorced and never remarried but had a special friend Carol Johnson who he dated for 25 years. Memories are lots of family gathering with our parent’s families. Nicodemus Homecoming Celebrations, and fishing and hunting trips with his daughters. Ross sent his daughters in their early Twenties a book on Etiquette 15th Edition by Emily Posts because he wanted to make sure they were equipped with the right manners and behavior raising children.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Louise Alexander-Scott; and two brothers; James Alexander and Leslie Alexander. Survivor left to cherish his memories are one brother Michael Alexander, Portland Oregon; a sister Carol Alexander, KS City, Missouri, and two daughters, Debra Alexander (O’Hara) Wilson, Hill City; Julie (Jacques) LeHouillier and step-daughter Cynthia Napue and nine grandchildren.
