The Story of Rosa "MaMa Rose" Mae Martin Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone; those we love can never be more than a thought apart; for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart Rosa Mae Martin (Mama Rose) was born October 24, 1933 in Opelousas Louisiana to parents Edwina and Ernest Dixon. She was very close to her parents and was the only child born of this union. When Rose came of age she moved on her own to Houston, Texas and attended school in McKinley, Texas where she completed the ninth grade. In 1952, she met James Wesley Martin Sr., the two united in holy matrimony and welcomed their first son Ernest James Martin a year later. At age 21 Rose and her husband along with their son relocated to Denver, Colorado. Rose and James welcomed their second child Mimi Martin followed by James Wesley Martin Jr., and Richard Martin. Rose was a personable, loving, and vibrant individual. Many found her to be a trusted confidante and as a result long-term relationships developed. Much like the ones between her good friends Wanda Miller and Vergie Burkes. She was outgoing, loved to travel, dance and could dress to impress with a hat collection out of this world.
