Robert Owens

Robert Eugene Owens was born on January 24, 1958 in Hobbs, New Mexico to his parents, Frances and B. B. Owens. He was the eighth child born in a family of ten children. The entire family moved to Denver, Colorado when Robert was three years of age. He attended the Denver Public Schools: Columbine Elementary, Cole Junior High, and Manual High School. During his high school years, he became a parent to Cedric Phillips. He worked throughout high school for a ceramic company and Walmart to help ends meet at home. He also met Gloria Dishmon in his senior year, who eventually married about 20 years later. During his career, he was employed at Walmart 17 years. His co-workers depended on him because he was not afraid to voice his opinion during company meetings. People would always tell him what was on their minds, so Robert would speak on their behalf. Robert and Gloria married on February 12, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. Gloria says, “He kept me strong, and showed me the meaning of real love. He would always stay positive and kept a smile on his face.” In his leisure time, he enjoyed being around his friends and family; watching football “The Denver Broncos”. Win or lose, Robert was a die-hart Bronco fan. He enjoyed music, dancing, cooking, barbecuing, and eating. He loved food! Robert’s health started deteriorating in August 2017 when he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. On February 14, 2018, Robert had complications with his surgery causing him to have cardiac arrest. He will be missed deeply by his wife, family and friends. Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Gloria Dishmon-Owens; son, Cedric Phillips; his siblings: Hosha, Darnell, Melvin, Darlene, Olene, Vikki, Wenda, Carol, and Doris a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
