Robert Lee Long was born on January 21, 1941, in Aliceville, Alabama to his parents, Jim Long and Emma Jane Broom Long. He was the first born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brother, Joe and his sisters, Ella Mae, Sara and Rubye. As a child, he enjoyed fishing and driving the tractor on the family farm. He completed his early education by attending the public schools of Aliceville, Alabama. On July 16, 1978, Robert united in holy matrimony to the former Christine Washington in Denver, Colorado. The couple enjoyed road trips when Robert was employed as an 18 Wheel Truck Driver. They shared many happy and memorable moments together. He was a loving and devoted father, who enjoyed the special moments shared with his family on holidays and other family gatherings. Robert was employed by Freeman and Sons Trucking Company. He was respected by his supervisors and admired by his co-workers. He retired after many years of faithful and dedicated service. Robert was a fun loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed socializing with family and friends and listening to the Blues. His favorite musician's where, Bobby Bland, B. B. King, and Muddy Waters. He also enjoyed working on cars as a Mechanic. His closest friends, James Curry, Robert Huntington and Charles Bell, who preceded him in death, enjoyed the camaraderie's they shared together and fact that he was a true and trusted friend. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man, who leaves a void that can never be filled and a legacy to cherish and remember. To know Robert was to love him. He is preceded in death by two sons, Michael Bailey and Leonard Bailey; his parents. Jim and Emma Long; two grandchildren. Tona Shanay Bailey and Leroy "June Bug" Huntington, Jr. Robert Lee Long departed this life on March 1, 2016, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his wife, Christine Long of Denver; 3 sons, Danny Long, Jerry Bailey and Jackie Bailey all of Denver; 5 daughters, Mary A. Orr of Denver, Ernestine (Gerald) Bailey Goudeau of Aurora, Diane (Malcolm) Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Joyce Bailey of Commerce City, Colorado and Sandra (Dwayne) Cole of Denver; 1 brother, Joe Long of Aliceville, Alabama; 3 sisters, Ella Mae Long, Sara Long both of Brooklyn, New York, and Rubye J. Cheatham, Birmingham, AL; 23 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and a host of cousins other relatives and many friends.
