Robert Alexander Gayles October 14, 1943 - January 7, 2018 Robert Alexander Gayles was born on October 14, 1943, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was the fifth of seven children born to Charles and Freddie (Duncan) Gayles. The Gayles family moved to Denver when Robert was three years old. Robert grow up in a large and loving family. His father was a hard worker who taught his children how to be resourceful, to fix what they had and not to be wasteful. He modeled a strong work ethic. His mother was a very creative women who, sewed, knitted, crocheted, made ceramics, baked, and cared for many of her grandchildren. She also taught her children and grandchildren how to work. There was no time to be idle in the Gayles household. Robert was educated in the Denver Public Schools System. He attended Mitchell Elementary, Cole Junior High, and was a pride graduate of Manual High School in 1961. After high school he joined the Army and after serving four years in the military returned to Denver. He was employed as a machinist at Honeywell for several years. He began his career at the Denver Water Department in late 60’s, as a Survey Engineer, and remained in their employment until his retirement. In 1966, Robert reconnected with a former school mate, Julia Mallard. They were married and to this union came a daughter Christel Q.E. Gayles. Robert was a fun loving guy who enjoyed the fellowship of family and friends. He was kind and generous, very rarely became upset about much of anything. He was a sharp dresser, who learned the art of style from his Aunt Doris as well as his Uncle Alexander, who owned Duncan Men’s Store. Robert departed this life early Sunday morning, January 7, 2018, after a brief illness. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Charles and Freddie Gayles, three brothers Alvin, Charles and Ellis Gayles. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Christel Gayles, son Christopher Hall, sisters Murlene Threet, Clara (Edward) Holloway, brother Frederick Gayles Sr., sister in laws, Carrie Gayles of Denver, Colorado and Elizabeth Gayles of Richmond, California; devoted companion Ann Bramwell, her daughter Tiffany (Byron) Watters, best friend Ray (Doris) Chapman, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and loyal friends.
