Robert Dent

March 24, 1938 — May 31, 2014

On March 24, 1938, Robert Richard Dent was the third child born to Mr. and Mrs. David Dent, Sr. in Wake Forest, North Carolina. He shared most of his time with his sister, Doris, and his two brothers, David, Jr., and Chris. As a teenager, Robert gave his life to Christ under the Presbyterian Faith. Robert graduated from high school in Wake Forest. On February 16, 1962, Robert was inducted into the US Army where he served his country during the Vietnam period until July 21, 1967. He traveled from Wake Forest to Mount Vernon, New York to Denver, Colorado, where he finally put down roots. In Denver, He met and fell in love with Carrie L. Lewis in December of 1968. During this time, Carrie already had 7 children, and 11 grandchildren. Over many years, more grandchildren and great grandchildren would follow. Robert never hesitated in accepting them all, as his own. Robert worked several years in the restaurant business; however, he found his love in the landscaping industry as a Landscaping Artist. He worked many years with the Anderson Nursing Company. After leaving Anderson, he joined forces with his longtime friend, Mr. Harmon Nero. Together, they operated their own landscaping business. Robert retired in the late 1990's. Robert was definitely a man of humility. A fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he loved hanging with his best friend and brother, Johnny Hines, Sr. Robert also enjoyed fishing, hunting, "slapping" dominoes, watching sports on television and let us not forget how much "he loved his Smirnoff Vodka." Mom would say, "Robert, don't you come back to this house drunk!" Robert would simply reply, "Carrie, I love you." Well, we all knew just what that meant. Roberts' family remembers him as a protector, as well as a provider. Robert truly loved Carrie and his entire family. It was no secret, Robert lovingly known as "PawPaw," had his favorite grandchildren: Chubby, Kayla, Lil Kenny, and Reese. PawPaw could fuss at the grandchildren, but no one else could. If PawPaw could not do anything else for you, he would definitely feed you. He would say, "gone' in the kitchen, get yourself something to eat, it's plenty" or he would tell you to get it and take it home for later. He will be missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known this caring and sharing man. After almost 45 years of marriage, Robert was preceded in death by the love of his life, Carrie Lee Lewis. Robert Richard Dent departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on May 31, 2014, at the Amberwood Court Care Center in Denver, Colorado. He leaves to cherish his memories 3 daughters, Juanita (Keith), Melodia, Regina; 2 sons, I. C. (Freda) Dent, Ronald (Lisa) Dent; 38 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
