Robert L. Clowney (Bobby) was born 72 years ago to Jessie Mae Pierce Dyamond and Robert W. Clowney.
Robert was reared by his paternal grandmother Mabel Howard in Xenia, Ohio.
His early years were also, guided by fond memories of his Great grandmother Nancy and Aunt Mattie.
Robert was a star basketball player on the Xenia High School Junior varsity team.
He played on the Central State University basketball team before joining the United States Marine Corps in 1963.
Highlights of his military career included a year in Vietnam, Assistant NCOIC at the U. S. Embassy in Brussels Belgium, Drill Instructor at MCRD in San Diego, NCOIC at the American Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel and Marine Detachment First Sergeant at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado.
Robert honorably retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years as a First Sergeant.
Ribbons and awards included Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, NATO Medal, Marine Corps Drill Instructor Ribbon, Cold War Veteran Medal, and Navy Commendation Medal.
After retiring from the Marines, Robert became a U. S. Civil Service employee at HUD and later at the Office of Civil Rights as an Equal Opportunity Specialist.
He was an excellent employee and received numerous awards for his contributions.
Robert was very athletic, running 10 to 20 miles weekly. He ran the Bolder Boulder twice with his daughter Robyn and once with his Marine Detachment.
He also completed the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon in 1991.
After retiring from OCR in 2006 Robert began pursuing his dream of full-time fishing and camping.
In 2011 Robert bought a fabulous 5th Wheel Montana RV and spent every summer after traveling across the USA. I'm sure he left this time and space dreaming of traveling in his "Golden" Montana RV.
Robert was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, his parents; brothers, Horace O'Neil Jr. and David Franklin Dyamond Jr.; and uncle Nathaniel Miller.
He leaves to cherish the memories of his life: a daughter Robyn Clowney and her mother Sybil of Aurora, CO; sisters, Jeanette O'Neal of Xenia, OH; Barbara Jean Clowney-Love of Columbus, OH; Terri Dyamond Hilliard of Xenia, OH; brother, Anthony R. Dyamond, Sr. of Xenia, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
