Richard Edward Hamlin, Jr. was born on July 7, 1950, in Newport News, Virginia to his parents, Richard E. Hamlin, Sr. and Tommie Gentry Hamlin. He was one of seven children born in the family. He received his early education in Blythe, California where he graduated from Palo Verde High School. He furthered his education by attending San Diego State University. In 1985, Richard united in holy matrimony to the former Margaret Ann Dockery. Margaret fondly remembers Richard teaching her "what real love is." To this union, one son, Rashard was born. He was also the proud father of Richard, Tommy, Paul, and Gerald. The family shared many happy and precious moments together. Richard and Margaret traveled throughout the United States but settled in Colorado because of the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. By profession, Richard was a skilled handyman. He loved working with home improvements. He also was employed by Coor's Brewery as a Material Handler. He was someone who worked well with others and was hard working and dedicated. He performed all his duties with a spirit of excellence. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Richard accepted the Lord as his personal savior, joining Isibane "Shining Light" Church in Blythe. He recently re-dedicated his life to the Lord at The Potter's House of Denver under the Pastoral leadership of Reverend Dr. E. Christopher Hill. He believed in the power of Prayer and having the right relationship with the Lord. I enjoyed listening and singing his favorite song, "I Surrender All." This song ministered to him, as he would desire for it to minister to others. Richard was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to Jazz music, working in his garden and he was an avid Denver Bronco fan. He was loving, kind, giving and caring. He was the type of person who didn't mind lending a helping hand to those in need. His closest friends, Edward Hill, Ronnie Anthony, and his spiritual mentor, Meutril Mailes will miss the camaraderie they shared together. He was a true and genuine friend. He was a quiet and peaceful man who enjoyed having fun with his two Chihuahuas, Star and Flip Flop. Richard leaves a void that cannot be filled. Richard Edward Hamlin, Jr. departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on January 24, 2014, in Denver, Colorado.
