Percy Williams

December 9, 1931 — September 29, 2016

Percy Williams, Jr. was born on December 9, 1931, in Kansas City, Kansas to his parents, Percy Williams, Sr. and Louise Blanchard Williams. He was the first child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Ronald, Van, and his sisters, Joan, Delores, Jacqueline, and Barbara. He received his early education in Kansas City, where he graduated from Sumner High School. He furthered his education by attending Kansas City Junior College. In 1950, Percy enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Korea and earned awards and citations for his meritorious service. Percy served with honor and distinction, and was honorably discharged. On November 22, 1958, Percy united in holy matrimony to the former Bobbie Jean Spears. They first met when they both lived in Kansas City. Bobbie fondly reflects that "they loved dining in fine restaurants and being in each other's company." They also enjoyed traveling and worshipping together in New Baptist Church. At the time of his passing, they had been married for 58 years. By profession, Percy was employed by the United States Postal Service. He was hard-working, dedicated and a very detailed oriented person. He worked well with his co-workers and supervisors. He retired after over 30 years of service. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Percy joined New Hope Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend M. C. Williams. He served his church and the Lord as a member of the Building Committee for the current church. He was also a member of the Prayer Band for many years. He truly believed in the power of prayer and often spoke about "how the Lord spared his life when he was on the battlefield in Korea, while in the United States Army." Percy enjoyed the fellowship shared with his current Pastor, Reverend Dr. Eugene Downing and his church family. He had been a member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 58 years. In his free time, Percy loved reading and spending time on the golf course. For many years, he enjoyed trading securities. Percy was a people person. He was the type of man who could strike up a conversation with anyone. He kept up with current events, whether local, within the United States or International. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Percy, was to love him. Percy Williams, Jr. departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on September 29, 2016, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Bobbie J. Williams of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Van D. (Deloris) Williams and Ronald (Laura) Williams all of Kansas City, Kansas; two sisters, Jacqueline Roe of Hazelwood, Missouri, and Barbara Eden of Palm Coast, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
