Peggy Boyd

"Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies." Proverbs 31:10

The Angels accompanied the delivery on September 13, 1931, of a wonderful baby girl Peggy Jane, to the union of Abbey (Tutt) and Mose Madkins in Mt. Enterprise, Texas. She was the baby of the family and throughout her life she made sure everyone knew it. She had 4 sisters: Dominion Taylor, Clara Myres, Mary Island, Lorene Hodge and 3 brothers: Jack Madkins, KCN York and Billy Roy Madkins (all deceased). She attended public schools in Texas and graduated high school there.

Peggy moved to Oklahoma where she met the love of her life and soul mate, Arthur Leon Boyd. They were married in Denver, Colorado on July 4, 1954, and spent 55+ years together through thick and thin until his sudden departure on the evening train. They were devoted to one another and traveled all over the United States. Peggy loved to dress up and she and Leon often dressed in the same colors. They would drive throughout Colorado just to have lunch in a different place. Peggy would say, on Sunday we had lunch with Jesus (he was one of the servers at the Country Buffet). Peggy and Leon had no children of their own but nurtured many godchildren. Leon's little sister was Peggy's "Baby", Dorothy, who was there for her after Leon's demise, until the end of Peggy's life. We don't want to forget Aunt Shirley (Bean) and her friend Lillie Thomas, who also assisted in doing what they could for Peggy, while she was in Manor Care of Denver.

Peggy gave her life to the Lord early in her marriage and lived a holy life until her passing. She attended Wayside Church of God in Christ where Elder W.H. Sims was the pastor. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, ushered, and whatever her hands found to do. She became a First Lady, when her husband was called to pastor and founded the Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ, ending up in the old Warren Branch Library on 34th and High Street. They led many souls to the Lord, and she worked tirelessly to support the ministry. She worked many years at the Veteran's Administration Hospital as a dietary. She also worked in that capacity at Manor Care of Denver where she last resided after suffering a stroke in 2012. Sister Peggy and Elder Boyd took many down and out, homeless and downtrodden into their home and treated them with utmost respect even when others advised her not to.

Peggy was a loving, kind and virtuous woman who would give you her best. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Peggy Jane Boyd was preceded in death by her husband, Elder Arthur Leon Boyd; her parents, 4 sisters, 3 brothers.

Peggy Jane Boyd departed this life into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, February 16, 2019, in Denver, Colorado. She leaves to cherish her memory her "Baby" sister-in-law, Dorothy Boyd (Richard) Jones of

Aurora, Colorado, sisters-in-law: Cordelia (Otis) Revels, Highland, California, Harriet Jan Avery of Sacramento, California; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Veronica) Boyd of Aurora, Colorado and Edgar Boyd of Denver, Colorado; her special Aunt, Shirley Bean of Denver, Colorado, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
