Pauline Davis

July 21, 1953 — September 11, 2021

Denver, CO

A life accentuated by Love.

Pauline Birdie (Sayles) Davis came into the world July 21,1953 as a blessing to Paul Earl Sayles Sr. (08-17-1925 to 09-22-1964) and Shizuyo Hase (Michie) Sayles (01-19-1929 to 01-16-2004). Pauline was named in honor of her father Paul and her Great-grandmother Birdie. Shortly after Pauline was born the family moved to Germany, because her father was stationed there. Pauline’s first words were in German. Two of her older sisters, and her Grandpa Alford Sayles called Pauline, “Sugar.” Pauline was Sugar to her sisters, Frances (1943 to 1992) and Johnny Mae (1945 to 2015) until they closed their eyes to the world.  To her brother Paul Earl Sayles Jr.(1947 to present) she was just little sister. Pauline’s younger brother Hugo (1957 to present) called her “Baby sister.”

Pauline’s parent bought a home in Northeast Denver where she was raised. Northeast Denver became the stomping ground for her and her best friends Joyce, Garnet, Carola, and Olivia, along with others. They enjoyed singing, dancing, and laughing everywhere they went. In school Pauline was a straight “A” student from kindergarten through High School. Except for Gym. She didn’t like Gym. Harrington Elementary School, Smiley Junior High School, and Manual High School, in class of 1971.

As a teenager Pauline was born, again, in Christ being baptized at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Pauline was a woman of faith who trusted God to read the truth in her soul, her thoughts, and her heart. Her LOVE.  A faith in God that gave her the strength to live the life apportioned to her, without regret. Treasuring her life, and all the people she loved, though all of her hardships, horrendous pain and unimaginable loss. Pauline still gave from her heart.

On August 10, 1972 she married the love of her life Thomas Davis (1951 to present), and it was an

enduring love of forty-nine years. To this union, their only child, Thomas “Dram” Davis Jr. was born on September 18, 1974 and was a beautiful spirit who blessed their lives. A life short lived, Thomas Jr passed away November 25, 2010 at the age of thirty-six.  Their precious son, passed away in his Mother’s arms, it was a devastating loss for Pauline and Thomas Sr.

Pauline carried a deep love for her lifelong friends as well as the many friends that walked along her path, and they were numerous. In later years, Miss Joan, and Miss Lynne, and Cousin Ethyl became dear friends. She had a very special connection with her Mom, they saw, spoke, and spent time together, everyday. Pauline was her Mom’s gift. Pauline gave a nurturing kind of love to all her family, but with a special part of her soul, she devoted purely to her grandchildren, whom she loved, beyond measure.

Pauline’s bond with her husband was imperishable and true love. She referred to him as “My Honey. My Babe. My Thomas”. They stuck together even through their trials and tribulations, their love was steadfast.

Pauline is preceded in death by her parents, Shizuyo Hase and Paul E. Sayles; son, Thomas Davis Jr.; and sisters, Frances and Johnny Mae.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Thomas Jr. and his wife, Tanya Davis-Trujillo; seven beautiful grandchildren,

Michael Trujillo-Davis, and his wife Salena; Rashaim “Shamie” Davis, Thomas “Boogie and/or Sxmi” Davis III, Izaiah “Lolly” Davis, Arrek “Sunny” Davis, Latrese “Pretty” Davis, Alex “Baby” Davis; great-granddaughters Aalaya and N’adaiya; brothers, Paul Sayles Jr and Hugo Sayles; nephew, Jon Ian Sayles; and niece, Desiree Lashawn Nelson

A few days before Pauline passed she couldn’t speak, and Latrese was holding her hand. Thomas asked her if she knew who Latrese was? Pauline smiled and whispered, “My baby girl.” Then, Shaam called and said, “I love you, grandma. I’m praying for you.” Pauline answered, “I love you, too.”

On the day she passed, Pauline asked her husband “Are you really here?” Thomas said, “Yes, Honey. I’m right here with you.” Thomas was always there, and he would always be there with a profound love in his heart.

Pauline Birdie Davis passed from this world September 11, 2021 with her grandchildren Arrek, and Latrese, along with her husband Thomas by her side.

A life accentuated by Love.

Pauline’s love is with us still, and we are going to carry that love with us, our whole lives.
